I've had pretty good luck so far. I use a raised bed & I've had to increase the size. Last spring I had shoots comming up out of the grass 6 inches outside of my landscaping timbers.
They grow well here & have been pest free without any help from me.
(I just watch'em grow & dig up the tubers every Nov. (Plan on adding a bunch of compost over the winter time. They grew shallow this year & many fell over from their own weight. *But they kept right on growing!*)
Robert, my great-grandfather had a patch of Jerusalem artichokes. They always grew in the same place and as far as I know are still there 30 years after he passed away. I planted some three years ago, but some nasty groundhogs kept eating them as they sprouted! Last year I put some chicken wire around them and actually had several plants grow. No blooms though. Hopefully they will do even better this year. I have not dug any yet to eat.

Well I actually boil them and then eat them with seasoned butter. For me sage butter is usually my choice but they are good with just melted butter in my opinion.
Thanks TK.. Um, don't you have to peel them or something? Sorry, I have no experience with them at all.. lol. They are kind of scary looking little critters when I see them in the produce section.. and I just never ventured to try them.. but I do love trying new things.. lol I might have to get some next trip to the store.
