I've got to brag. It's so cold out but I got out in the garden long enough to plant the radishes. I bought them from parks. They are the first seeds I have seen for white radishes. I ran into these when I was a kid and loved them. Now with luck I'll have my very own.

According to the directions they like to be planted 2 weeks before the last frost outside. So that's what I did. I hope they are as good as I remember.

This is so exciting.

I know it hasn't been long since your post, but I'm wondering how your radishes are doing.

They haven't come up yet but I get out there and water them when it isn't snowing or freezing or raining lol.

Maybe you can go to Virginia beach and get warm...

Or send my radishes on a road trip so they get warm? This type of radish is suppose to take 14 to 21 days to germinate A long time for a radish but if they are as good as I hope I won't mind the wait at all.

Friday 13th .......snow here again. Dont expect the radishes to grow today..

We are suppose to get the snow on sunday. Not much just a powdering. This weather is unbelieveable. Did you start a bunch of stuff inside too? My apartment is definitely jr jungle about now.

Mine looks like a Senior jungle......I have Queen Sophia marigolds ready to bloom..18 inches high.. I like them.
A cleome here about 2 foot tall blossoms just ready to ope.
Many different types of flowers going..Trees.. christmas trees from seed......Hazel nut tree , doing well..
Many......I have my work cut out for me.
It really was a wonderful swapping winter for me.

I feel your pain if you have snow or winter..Ours melts and comes, melts and comes...It is dumb.

yep yours is definitely senior. Mine isn't that bad. The tomatoes are plastered against the living room window on the window shelf. The lower shelf is where all of my houseplants are hidden plus the two sage plants that I brought in from last fall. And underneath the grow light are 12 bell peppers and a coleus start for a friend. And then their are the 2 foot tall and falling over Egyptian Walking Onions. a bowl planter of peppermint and the varigated aloe vera. It is blooming for the 3rd time this year.

Then in the part sun section are the lettuce, spinach, jade leaf cuttings, madagascar jasmine and the three epi's. and that's just in the livingroom lol.

Do you eat the Egyptian walking onion? I have 3 planted outside......maybe dead.

probably not dead. I've found that the "onion family" may drop it's leaves often but that they come back when the conditions are more to their liking. And yes I do plan to eat some of them. The rest I'm going to harvest the bulbets from. They grow really quickly so I hope maybe I'll get two crops this year.

Your a doer..........We sure have the weather for onions.

It is sunny today and bare....They are calling for a foot of snow sunday.......
We normanlly dont get snow after March..Ha
Glad some of my flowers inside are doing their thing. The Cleome is over 24 inches tall nearly blooming.. Queen SOphia marigold is about 18 inches....Almost in bud.
Impatiens been blooming all winter..
All waiting to go ouside.

Woohoo the radishes have sprouted. I'm so please. I was concerned that the snow got them but they pulled through no problem.

Tammy I let mine go to seed and the seed
falls over and over winters outside
*under all my snow, several feet this year*
and they pop up like crazy first thing in the season..

I am sooooo glad they're growing..
*and watch'em, they ripen quickly..*

Thanks for the info Weezie. my plan is to plant them out every two weeks so I have radishes all summer long. I do love them. And then let the last of them flower and produce seeds for next year.

3 of my radishes have disappeared out of the garden. They aren't ripe so I'm not sure what happened. No one pulled them up because there is no hole where they were. This is weird. Any ideas?

Well I planted a bunch more over where I planted the bush. We'll see how they do.

Maybe bunnies or birds......Robins and a blackbird drive me coo coo........
THey actully chew off the marigolds..........I have to put old curtains on them when I first plant them.

RObins eat my berries ..Ole curtains..again.

Sounds like you've got some aggressive wildlife around your place.

Woohoo the second group of Radishes is sprouting. I can't wait until the first set is ready to harvest. In a bit of a hurry aren't I?

me too As soon as the first set of radishes are harvested I plant to put more in that spot. I won't be able to use it for radishes next year so I want to do as many as possible this year.

Do you mean you have to rotate the crops for radishes??

No I'm still expecting to move and even if I don't the chinese lanterns will have taken over that bed by next year. They have taken over half of it already.

I didnt know the lanterns were so invasive.. Here I am going to plant some.huh.

you do need to put down a root barrier so they don't take off on you. Or do the pots without bottoms. Just make sure they are tall pots. The traveling roots on mine will go as deep as 8 inches so far. They did manage to get outside the raised bed but they went for where a fence post is where I wouldn't mind having them so it's ok.

Is it pretty warm in Va today.It is about 78 here with a nice breeze....We need rain badly.

Sounds funny when everyone else is so flooded......well guess it makes up for the late snow.....
Probably be 80 all summer and no rain ..

yeah it went up into the 80's here too. But today we are having a nice rain.

We had a dry summer here last year. I hope we get more rain and less heat this year. My garden was a dust bowl by mid summer and it didn't let up until October.

This year some local person has been feeding the squirrels on top of my compost pile. So of course they have been digging in my flower beds. They tried to dig up the peonies. And I think they got two of the tulips. Grrrrh. I caught the silly person but they just keep doing it.

It is 40º here this morning .....Not a drop of rain.....All around us it was black last nite.........No rain.. Thank heavens I had most flowers in..But I did have the tomatoes out in the garden..eek.
Had company and forgot to cover..........

oh I hope you don't loose them. Mine are still straggly looking and not a blossom in sight. definitely not planting sweet williams next year. What a disappointment.

I think I'll add the tiny tim tomatoes to my trade list. I really like those last year. And maybe some brandywine.

We have lots of buckets and pots to cover the tomatoes, or we would not have done this........

I have some cherry type tomato seeds and maybe brandywine, if you want some.........don't know the dates......

I'd love maybe 8 of the brandwine seeds. Is the cherry tomatoe seeds you have for a more bush type plant? If so I'd like maybe 8 of those too.

Well I pulled up one of the radishes today. I just had to. It looks like a carrot. Far longer than I expected it to be. It can still fill out some before it is to its full size but they are really big compared to normal radishes.

This aren't as mild as I was expecting but that's ok. I like the flavor or radishes.

I know one thing. It's a bad idea to plant them in 100% compost lol. You would not believe the size of the leaves. Talk about monster size lol. I think 50% compost will be plenty in their space next year where ever that is.
