I was thinking that on average repotting occurs every three years. But I just read the back of the orchid mix potting soil and it said every one year. Are they joshing me?

Which orchid or orchids are you talking about? Most like to be a little root bound. Are you orchids out growing the pot or is the potting material gone? I usually find ever two to three years depending on condition of the potting material and if they are growing out of the pot.

So I'll probably be good for another year. That's good to know. Maybe next year I'll have enough money to buy nice pots for them. This year they are in margarine containers lol.

There are several different types of orchids, "I have the white one" doesn't tell us if it's a Phal, a Den, an Onc., a Phaph, etc.

You most likely have a phal. or den. but let us know which orchid type will help people fine tune their recommendations for you!

Yes, that's a phal. It doesn't always have six. When all the flowers die cut that flower stem back to just forward of the first flower node, it *might* produce a second flush of flowers.

Repotting is easy but you'll get different opinions on what to use. Some like long fibered Spag moss, some like bark, etc.

Wait a year to repot, it's probably fine right now. Nice flowers by the way!

Thanks Tom,

I repotted last year charcoal......When it stopped blooming , I cut that back to 2 inches......YOu mean they bloom on the same stem??????

Id love to have one of the red type ones........I did get a bargain at $8.00
It is in a regular ceramic rectangler flower pot.

Yes, they sometime send out a side branch from the previous flowering stem IF you make that cut. Not eveyone does that, it's one of those personal preferences....

they do grow in trees. Some are tropical and some are alpine. The alpine are suppose to be the easier to grow. My three are babies from Nor in Malaysia. I have the Golden Shower and then the white and the purple ones. I don't know how old they have to be to flower. But I'm assuming probably a couple of years older than mine. I think the orchids make babies but I'm not sure on that. I know the vanilla orchid makes beans with seeds inside.

I haven't seen her since we changed to the new site. If it was confusing for me I can't imagine how hard it was for her working in a second language. I hope she finds it but I don't hold out much hope.

I'm suprised yours didn't servive. Mine got horribly mistreated by me. In one instance I didn't know that it was inside the purse and left it on the dinningroom table for a week until I found it. And even that one is doing good.

I have them in the bark orchid soil and water them once a day and have a humidity tray underneath them. And I have them in bright light. For some reason they don't seem to mind.
