Your little bird is a Dark-Eyed Junco, traditionally called the Snowbird. They Summer and raise their young in the Arboreal Forest of Canada. Then, in Winter, they head south to cover almost ALL of southern Canada and the US to the Mexican Border. There are several sub races of this bird. Most notable is the near coal black of the upper body, brilliant white belly and in stark contrast to the black uppers, a bright Salmon-pink bill. They like to feed on the ground or a platform feeder and often clean up spillage, UNDER seed feeders. They like the Wild Bird seed Mix that has the small round white seeds in it. They make a soft Zeeep-zeeep sound, like a toy ray-gun.

Thanks Thorn,
The Juno are all around here playing .....I must write that down.. I miss out on a squirrel .....Blurred it . Had the camera on 12x and that is very hard to shot on .......put it on a tiny tripod, and when you press the button to snap, shakes. Yet on a shorter shot that doesnt shake?????????/No one said this is a easy job..

Nice never saw one of those . I have junco, but not that kind. Question? Where did my birds go? Since our snow storm on Monday and the cold weather that has set it I haven't been seeing many birds. No bluejays, no junco, only 2 doves and 1 cardinal. And that was only once! I was filling bird feeders everyday and now not even once a week. I want my birds back

I love watching the birds. They must be cold and hiding where it is warmer for them. I hope its not the food they are getting sick of

Many evergreen seeds require heat, like a brushfire to cause them to germinate. Eastern Red Cedars do. The berries on these Cedars will not sprout unless heated in a brush fire. When we used to burn the broom sage off our fields each spring, by Summer's end, we would have THOUSANDS of NEW Cedar seedlings sprouted and growing.

The sun was out today but it was quite cold and windy, but a few birds ventured out of their hiding place. A cardinal, 12 mourning doves, and a couple nuthatches. I think they are staying out of the wind.
