So what have you made so far and what do you plan to make?

Do you have a traditional dessert or such?

Please share with us all.

So Far I've done the Rosette Cookies. They aren't baked but since they were a cookie I decided to mention them here.

I plan on doing the stained glass cookies, Chocolate Mint Cut Out Cookies, Spritz Cookies with traditional flavorings, Buried Cherry Cookies, and Gingerbread Men. It's my first year with the Gingerbread Men so I am holding my breath that they turn out.

The chocolate Mint Cut Out Cookies are going to the Pot Luck tomorrow at church.

I have also orderd 2 nut rolls--I have only made them from scratch one time

hopefully I will get to the cookies next week--(lol--I had better, huh?)

Not really a recipe.

I cook 3 parts stew(cubed) beef and 2 parts stew(cubed)pork separately(salt while cooking). You drain(and don't use the pork broth) and cool the pork, but keep the beef broth when you drain the beef. Cool the meat and shred up by hand. Add a few chopped raw onions into your meat mix(to taste). Throw in some pepper and some beef broth so that it is a little juicy but not close to dripping. Mix well by hand.(Some people like to add a few handfuls of cooled mashed potatoes~but I don't)

Make your pie crusts, put in meat mix and cover with a top crust, cut a few holes or slits in top. Cook at 350* till the crust is baked(the meat mix is already pre-cooked). I make them and freeze them, I just take them out to unthaw in the fridge then cook the next day. Delicious.

Meat pie is a Maritime thing. It is served for breakfast on Christmas morning. And only enough is made so that it is all eaten by the end of January. Then only made for Christmas again.

Jiffy here alot of people make it with deer and moose. They say it's just as good.

It's also very filling. We serve it for a meal with just pickles and beets.

i'm suppose to be making cookies today. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. What do you bet that I don't get them done? Oh well, I'll make them next week.

Talk about not in the baking mood. And that is really strange for this time of year. I wonder if it has to do with not putting up my christmas decorations?

No Tree, no cookies?

how many days on average can you make cookies ahead of time? Does anyone have a rule of thumb on that one? I'm doing gingerbread men and stained glass sugar cookies.

I always say if your going to leave them out, no more than a week or so for best freshness.

Put them in tight fitting containers like tuppeware with fresh, plain, sliced bread in them (for soft cookies) replace bread as it gets hard.

BUT I usually have mine made by now (not this year) and I put them in the freezer--they thaw in a few hours---.

I'm making mine on several days this week.

It sounds like I can start this week too. That's a good thing. I just need to do a little more cleaning in my kitchen and then make up the Navy Bean Soup and then clean up from that and I'll be ready to go. ... Well maybe tomorrow lol.

Well it's tomorrow already and I'm still cleaning. I hope I have a garbage disposal at the next place I live. I always stop up the sink without one. And of all times to run out of paper towels. Anyway by this afternoon I should definitely start making the candy and cookies. If not there is always the next tomorrow lol.

Hope everyone else's schedule is working out better than mine.

I tried making the hard rock candy but I couldn't get it hot enough. So it solidified on everything except itself.

And the Chocolate Mint Cut Out cookies turned out as hard as cement. Definitely need to add a teaspoon of baking powder to that recipe. There was no rise at all.

Now as soon as I recover I'll try the stained glass cookie and see what kind of damage I can do with that recipe. I'm just not a cookie maker.

O.K. these are the sweets I made for the baskets, the cookies only got decorated last night.

[Linked Image]

And these are the baskets, I have three layers of squares in muffin papers (27 pieces) and the cookies are in the blue holiday containers. So each person gets a basket and a container.

[Linked Image]

DH wants me to make up baskets and rent a table at the craft fair next year to sell them...Might be a plan.

I love your cookie cutter pattern for the snowflakes. I had the hardest time finding cookie cutters this year. They just didn't have much of a selection if they had them at all.

Well I'll probably start my baking alittle later in the day. I'm not up to it this morning. Yesterday was busy and I haven't recovered yet.

They are in the decoration aisle. They are copper with a red bow(to hang on a tree) but it was so big and pretty that I used it for cookies. It really is a cookie cutter...well, I think. lol
