If you read my 'funny story at the dollar store' in Frugal Gardening forum about buying plates, frames, things like that, here's what I made this weekend. Going to make some stepping stones like this. Just use the same stuff you use to put tile on your walls. Fairly easy to do. I wanted my boys to help me, but the 'glue' was pretty sticky, so I did it myself. Just a few practice ones here this weekend to get the feel for it. Still need to pain the inside white.

Angelblosson - I love those!

The stepping stones - let me find the directions I'm going to follow for those - will post as soon as I get supper in the oven!

The flowers behind are many, many geraniums I had to move from my furnace room aka greenhouse because I was overflowing!

Here, I scanned this from a gardening book I bought showing the stones, the trick is, is to try to get them all level - the tiles and whatnot you are placed on there, as level as possible so that there are no sharp edges.

There's another one I have to find, one where you use a mold, cut contact paper to fit the bottom, stick the 'tiles and things' face down on the contact paper, then add the 'cement', jiggling it to get air bubbles out, and then when it's set - but not toooooo set, flip it over, pull off the contact paper and buff the tiles and things you placed in there, let me find those - that's what I plan on doing.

Okay - here is the episode I saw this on - I love Landscape Smart on HGTV! If you Google "stepping stones contact paper" there are lots of ideas on how to do this.

I wanted to make those last year but ran out of time. Will definately take a look at the link. Do u think cement with stones the kind used for posts will work? I have 4 bags left over from last years deck building. And I got a whole bunch of ice cream cointainers from freecycle that could be used as molds. I can't wait 'til it warms up again. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday after the winter snow storm that is supposed to hit us tonight.

Those are neat.

I suppose they are clay pots?

Do they feel real heavy?

Great ideas! I do stained glass and I know there are tools you can buy for cheap at Hobby Lobby or maybe even Michael's to cut the tile into shapes that accommodate your pattern better for mosaics. You can also file the sharp edges with a heavy metal file. Most men have one of these somewhere in their stuff in the garage. You can use an existing stepping stone and decorate it or create one with a mold and concrete. Look for bags of those jewels on sale or at yeard sales.
I search yard sales for things to merge into my stained glass projects or yard art projects. Good luck.

Those pots are really pretty. I especially like the blue one. I've gone crazy over mosaics. I did an old outdoor iron table and then I decided to do some old windows. I used stained glass in colors that matched my living room and tan colored grout. I live in an old house with deep window wells, so I just screwed them to the existing windows. It filters the western sun in the summer and throws really neat colors around the room.

Patty,

Thanks .........I like those.

The first one is my pick......Now that is a useful way to use the clayflower pot after the water has stained them.
Recycled clay pots..........
I'd love to do a large one......You did well.
Thanks for sharing those.
