I mentioned a while back that my grand son and I planted a few lettuce seeds knowing it was too late in the season. We just did it for fun. Even after the freezing weather, today I harvested some of that lettuce. I guess the little seeds were protected by the leaves.

I made a salad. I don't remember what type. I received the seeds in a trade a while back and thought we'd throw them out and see what happened. I never dreamed it'd live through the freezing weather.

I also planted beets that have lovely greens but no beets.

Are beet tops edible like turnip greens?

I think so. I haven't eaten any yet though. I just can't figure out what happened to the beets.

Wow.. congrats on the lettuce!! How exciting.. especially when you weren't really expecting it to do anything. I would like to plant lettuce too.. but I have never tried it before.. know nothing about it. Any tips?

That is great! There are some types of lettuce that generally survive in winter. Seems like youu got one of them. Congrats!
