We are having a FREAK cold snap here in Tx! I'm so worried my garden is going to freeze tonight! The expected low is 37 degrees....will my garden be ok, or do I need to scramble and try to cover my plants? It's also raining (if that makes any difference!)
I have no idea how I'll get everything covered!
Talk me down, folks!!!!

Thanks,
JoAnn

JoAnn, I'm a rookie myself, but bedsheets work. We're going through this right now, too. 81 degrees on Tuesday, below freezing Wednesday night.

I bought some 2' bamboo stakes at my local Lowe's store (about $3 for a package of 25 or so), put a stake on either side of my plants. Then draped bedsheets across the bed with rocks/bricks holding the edges down, proped on the bamboo stakes to keep the sheet off the plants as much as possible.

Here's a recent similar thread:

Hope it helps,
David

Oh, that's a good idea, David!
I have some old fencing I could do that with to cover my 'maters! That covers a nice big area, too!

Got some old plastic containers out of the garage to cover my cukes and squash...

i think as long as it doesnt get below 30 for too long of a time ,youd probably be ok doing nothing.
we are getting a big freeze here in st louis and the first night ,it didnt seem to hurt much. the second night i saw signs of stress and covered em up.
might be too little too late, but as early as it is,they will probably rebound.

My tomato hit the dust the first night of the freakish cold. I'd cover just to be safe. Fortunately tomatoes are easy and quick to germinate.
