Lithium batteries especially,,,( which is what I Use )
This is a report From Washington,,
To help reduce the risk of fires, air travelers will no longer be able to pack loose lithium batteries in checked luggage beginning Jan. 1, the Transportation Department said Friday.
Passengers can still check baggage with lithium batteries if they are installed in electronic devices, such as cameras, cell phones and laptop computers. If packed in plastic bags, batteries may be in carryon baggage. The limit is two batteries per passenger.
The ban affects shipments of non-rechargeable lithium batteries, such as those made by Energizer Holdings Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co.'s Duracell brand.
"Doing something as simple as keeping a spare battery in its original retail packaging or a plastic zip-lock bag will prevent unintentional short-circuiting and fires," Krista Edwards, deputy administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, said in a release.
The Federal Aviation Administration has found that fire-protection systems in the cargo hold of passenger planes can't put out fires sparked in lithium batteries.
The National Transportation Safety Board earlier this month said it could not rule out lithium batteries as the source of a cargo plane fire at Philadelphia International Airport last year.
I always use Lithium batteries for my camera,, they last 7X longer ,, Oh well Next time I travel,, I guess I will just leave them in the package, OR in a ziplock bag

Air travel is very hard. Because my job is a lot of air travel I feel like I wear my clothes out putting them on take them off and put them on again.
-Put on clothes I leave at 3 am in the morning (1 hour drive to the airport) -Take off clothes for security (another 1 hour Security line process) -Put clothes back on after going through security. -It is then 6:00 am I can finally get on the plane by 6:30 all dressed.
WHAT A CRAZY LIFE!!!!
I carry a spare pack with me for my cell charger. It is the only thing I need batteries for. My camera has a chargable lithium battery. So I guess I am safe with the battery thing.
I thought clothes off for security was fairly rare and random. I only had to remove shoes the last time I went to New Zealand. (5 years ago) I wonder if it matters where you are going? Or if you are traveling with kids?

SHoes is all I've ever had to remove as well Tina,, NOw it's a given Everyone must remove shoes even flip flops. The security @ dallas and at seattle was pretty easy,, but going and coming back they went thru my check in baggage,,

Because I travel for business and you have to understand I live where it is only warm three months of the year which require you have on a coat. So I have to remove my blazer, my coat and my shoes, take out the computer, sometime they don't like my PDA have to remove that too.
Also, the business travel causes other problems. There are many things that make them think you are a terroist, paper clips, my portable charger that is battery operated etc. Who would think baby powder was dangerous. I keep baby powder in my purse it is great if you spill anything on your clothes. The list goes on. This causes them to have to empty your computer case or purse and do a random search. My middle name is Random. LOL!!!
It must be traveling with kids that save me. Shoes off and they hustle you through that line as fast as possible. I think they are afraid they will set off kid sirens or something. Getting your stuff into NZ can be tricky. They have agri-issues. They are much more worried of what you might have clinging TO your shoes than what explosives might be IN them. Any milk and dairy items go into special lines. But still with kids (after an 11 hour flight) they are polite and hustle you through quickly.

when my friend, Silvia, and I went to Jamaica she was searched leaving from Charlotte and coming back. We don't know why. We didn't have cameras or computers. All I had to do was take off my shoes. They stopped her on the other side and patted her down and went through her purse. She didn't have to take off additional clothes or she would have been in her underwear. They didn't give her a reason.
It is blazers and coats you have to take off. One summer I thought great I will not have to take off my blazer. I had on a blouse and a very revealing silk camisole under it which is why I had on the blouse. They told me to take the blouse off. I refused and they said well we have to search you.
They took me to the side and rubbed me down. It was humiliating.
The bells is probably the 3 weeks out of the Month that I am on the road from San Francisco one week and Lynchburg, Va then back Arizona two weeks later.
They probably think I either trafficing something or crazy. Coz they can look at me and know I am not rich. LOL!!
I like to travel. But I like to travel for fun. I think the kind of travel you do would wear on me quickly. Home must look mighty good to you when you get there. And you're moving also.

It is hard but I have learned to put my mind in a good place when I am dog tired. Think happy thoughts, plan my garden anything that makes me happy.
and Yes I love being home. I use to go on vacation twice a year but that stopped 15 years ago when I started this job. Vacation is being in my bed at home. As soon as I work the price out with the sellers I will be moving in 2008.
