For Christmas Maddie found out that she is going to be a big sister!! We were also very surprised needless to say. I had not even thought about the possibility of baby #2 coming. Today we had ultrasounds done to find out how far along I am and to see when a cerclage would be placed. Turns out I'm 21 weeks and due May 14th.....too far along for a cerclage to be placed. The next 3 weeks will be a little scary for me as 24 weeks gestation is considered viability. My cervix measured a full 4 cm. which is perfect....and surprising. The Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist was very surprised that it was long and cannot explain it (we were surprised as well!). i've never gone past 18 weeks without the cervix going haywire. I don't even have orders for bed rest! I do have orders to go straight to the hospital if I feel anything out of the ordinary. We have not told any grandparents yet....still a bit in shock. But I am telling my closest friends and my pregnancy after a loss support group. We decided not to find out the gender, so all will be a surprise when baby comes. :)
WOW There has been a lot a great beginning to the New Year around here Jenn and this adds much joy to the list,, Congratulations,,!! That is wonderful news.
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Holy COW, that is surprising! But VERY good news Jenn, I'm so happy for you and your expanding family. You'll soon have your hands very full with another little miracle.
I said to Stephen on the way home from the appt today that now I don't feel all that bad about gaining the 3 pounds over the holidays! LOL!! Now I now WHY I gained the 3 pounds!!! We also now know why I've been soo tired......because this little bean has been sucking all of my energy!! ....and here I thought it was just Maddie sucking my energy.
We told Stephen's parents this evening. his dad's initial reaction wasn't really what I expected and made me feel kind of bad about the entire situation, but he warmed up to the idea quickly when he realized this baby is due in May and that isn't far away.
We are still planning to make our cross country move this summer.....looking at August. Stephen and his dad will drive and have the puppies with them and Stephen's mom and i will fly with Maddie and #2....possibly also with the cats. I am still surprised and overwhelmed as to how far I am. I just feel soo irresponsible because I had no clue how far I was. I mean.....who does that!?!? But this baby is meant to be and we are happy. I just keep thinking that Maddie came at 28 weeks.....and that is only 7 weeks away for this baby. That isn't very long to get extra diapers ready and possibly extra clothes. We don't want to find out what this baby is.....but if it is a boy, I'd like to have something other than pink clothes to put him in!! We might change our minds about find out who exactly is in there.....but we wouldn't tell anyone. :)
Thanks all for your congratulations and well wishes. I know I haven't been very active on this board lately, but you are all my family and are very important to me. Heck! You all found out about this baby before any of the grandparents did!!! :)
WoWCongratulations! Jenn, This is great news and this baby is a wonderful surprise. My first child is due May 22 the waiting period to 24 weeks sure is scary. I won't find out the sex of mine for another 2 weeks.
All my thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with you and your expanding family.
Whoa......was not expecting this! I am very happy for you! You are a wonderful mother to Maddie and this was meant to be! It has got to be overwhelming, just know we are hear for you whenever you need to laugh, cry, or just pull your hair out! We will be here for everything! Maddie sure is lucky and this little one will be too!
Only 3 pounds so far? gee, maybe I should of just had a bean when I was pregnant instead of the whole garden
So we now have two spring babies due....I remember my aunt saying about April showers brings May flowers when once again(after her first two May babies)her third child was born in May...my grandmother said, Are you sure?.....I'm thinking it's all the sex in August.

I think we'll do pretty well with #2 and Maddie. Maddie is a good sleeper....she usually sleeps a full 12-13 hours at night, gets up about 8:30am for a bottle (laced with her meds, of course) and then goes back down until 11:30-12:30. So, I am usually in bed until at least 11am. So, #2 shouldn't be toooo bad because I technically and still in the lack of sleep stage because I never sleep all through the night. I wake up to go to the bathroom (now we know WHY ) and then check in on Maddie before going back to sleep. I just keep thinking that this will be good because Maddie will know no different....there will be no jealousy of #2. It'll just show up one day and Maddie will be like "cool...hi". And by the time #2 comes, Maddie will be able to sit up and entertain herself, so that will be a BIG help.
Lastnight Stephen said "this is all my fault"....I totally thought he was upset about #2, but then he reminded me about something that he said back before we got married. That he wanted to have all of his kids by the time he is 30. He turns 30 in September and #2 might be our last, so his thoughts are coming to pass. I think its funny and ironic. I also find it ironic because the day after Maddie was born he said "ya know, we could get pregnant right away and if it came early like Maddie we'd have 2 in the course of 9 months!!!" Ummmm.....yeah. LOL!!!
I found a onesie that says "I'm gonna be a big sister!". It is a custom one that is embroidered and you can pick out the girl's eye color and hair color and hair type (straight or curly) and shade of skin and then you can have the name embroidered under the picture. It costs $24.95 and I really want it. all of the other "I'm gonna be a big sis" onesies that I'm seeing are like 15 or 19 dollars....so whats an extra 4 bucks...right? And the embroidery will stay on longer than screen printing too....especially with how often we wash Maddie's clothes. I'm trying to talk Stephen into it, but he just looks at the price. I think I will just use the $25 of birthday money that I got. I want to get is soon so that we can get a picture of Maddie in the onesie and send it to my parents (whom we haven't told yet) to see if they notice the top. Can you just imagine!? LOL!!!!
I had to break out my "fat pants" today. My jeans are just getting a little too snug when I'm sitting on the couch and it is pretty uncomfy. The fat pants really do make me look preggo! I want to put my other jeans on! lol
....and about "all the sex in August"...lemme just tell you, we were NOT caring what the calendar was saying. It was more like "did the dr. give the OK???....GOOD!" I mean, the poor guy was banned for MONTHS!!!
Jenn I think the onesie is a great idea---AND the perfect way to tell your parents --maybe you could make the photo into a 5 x 7 before you semd it so your parents will easily get the "full effect" of the 'embroidery'.
I was more concerned about you overdoing for Maddie when I made my comment but it sounds like she is giving you lots of time to rest so that is good.
About the "sex in August" comment---- I just had to laugh outloud--but well, the truth is the truth--and I say, so what ???----If the Dr. said 'yes' then good for you both. --and now, good for Maddie too!!!
Once again, thanks for the update.
and oh--Tell Stephen, Rod & I said "Congratulations"

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
jenn, scott and i were laughing about how at the rate we are going, we will meet both kids at the same time! seriously, we are sooooooo happy for you. and we are praying hard that the next 4 months go as smooth and easy (pregnancy wise) as the last 4!
I love the 'onsie picture' idea. What a wonderful way to share your new news. Still laughing over the turning 30 in September
My grandmother is hilarious, she had 17 children with not one of them being born in September~one day I said, "strange how you missed that month Grams?", she popped right back and said, "nothing strange about it, who had time for anything in December when you had Christmas to prepare for my brood ~by the way your grandfather spend most of December in the wood camps making extra money for Christmas'.
