I need a somewhat fast growing vine that will do well in partial sun. It needs to be any color but white (the arbor is white) and a perennial, and preferably one that will cover at least half of the arbor. I tried a climbing rose several years ago but it didn't get quite enough sun and it wasn't happy. I've been growing morning glories on one side and a clematis on the other. The MG's do OK, but the clematis doesn't do as well....once again not enough sun and this particular clematis doesn't cover the area enough. Is there a vigorous colorful clematis that will tolerate partial sun? Thanks.

Have you considered Wisteria sinensis? It should do okay in your location and trains nicely on an arbor. The Japanese species is showier but most likely not hardy enough, though.

Yup, Ramona Clematis....it didn't grow much the first year but the second year it went crazy, and it is in part shade. The flowers are so big and pretty as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think wisteria might be a little too aggressive and heavy for my arbor. I really like the color of the the Ramona clematis...it would look nice with the white arbor. I'll have to see if I can find it locally this spring. I'm still open to more suggestions, too.

Depending on where you live there is a very colorful honey suckle that grows fast and comes back every year. I don't remember the name of it right now but I know it can only be shipped to some states.

What about a passion flower, blueish in colour when flowering, in autumn it develops orange fruit.

How about a browneyed daisy vine......It grows in most areas .. Grows like crazy..
