Hi guys, this is my first time posting here. I hope I do you all proud ;)

I planted some edamame seeds last Saturday in my little indoor greenhouse (in expandable peat pellets). They are already about 1" high. I am going to move them to larger bio-degradeable pots soon. Should I do anything special with them? This is the first time I have tried to grow this plant and am really excited about it.

Thanks, Jennifer

I don't know anything about edamame. I had to google it to see what it was. But I do want to welcome you to the forum. Now you've made me want to try a new veggie. When I've used the peat pots like yours, I have had occasional plants that became rootbound within it even after I put them into larger pots or into the ground. I've since started opening the peat pots up a bit before transplanting. Other than that, I just don't know of anything special to do except not to change their environment to abruptly.
Have fun here. I think someone may come along with an answer for you.

Thanks Tina. I have used the peat pots for a while, and I also cut a slit along the bottom and/or sides. You should definitely try edamame. It is packed with protein and very filling. I first tried it at a sushi bar and loved it! I have since bought some at out local organic supermarket and *hopefully* will grow my own this year. I will let you know how my "babies" turn out.

I also have the following in the greenhouse if you are interested:
peas, Costa Rican Papaya, Hyacinth Beans, Cypress Vine and Columbine. Quite an assortment. ;)

On another topic, is there a forum for a seed trading group?

Edamame is sometimes listed as "Edible Soybeans" if anyone was having trouble finding it.

Just to update everyone, only 2 of my seedlings are still growing. Of 12, 2 didn't germinate, and I think the other 8 were lost to dampning off. I moved the 2 that are still growing to another spot and they are 8-12" each. I hope I get at least 1 out of the bunch! I will keep everyone updated and post some pics soon!

I eat them all the time, just yesterday as a matter of fact. I buy them frozen and warm them up for 2 minutes in the microwave and then eat them. I put them in salads and everyone will ask about the "lima beans" in the salad. I've never grown them. Keep us posted on how this works out please.

Welcome.

I only have 2 left from the original planting. I planted 6 more and I think I have all the kinks worked out (hopefully). The 2 that are left are about 18" and 10".
