i'm helping a friend with her jade tree which developed rot.

she lost a whole branch. now, i know she can re-root it and that she can put some root hormone on the cut to help the roots start up.

my question is: what can be applied to the open sore on the main trunk to protect it? it's a couple of inches across and it would definitely need something!

i looked on the old site and couldn't find anything. would the basic stuff you use when pruning trees be appropriate? thanks!

really, you don't want to put anything on it, you want it to scab and callous over. that is the best protection. but make sure the rot is cut away first, back to healthy tissue.
