The temperatures are dropping today, so the birds are really busy at the feeders. I was trying to catch a Red-bellied Woodpecker on the feeder. He was at the perfect angle to see his belly, but I scared him. I got these guys instead.

There are NO Cardinals west of the Rockies. But you have Bushtits and Varied Thrushes and a bunch of other birds not found in the East. OH! AND MAGPIES, TOO!!! Those are cool and are related to Crows and Jays. AND, you have those quail with the cute little topknot feather on their heads. I saw many of these birds when I spent one summer in Mackay, Idaho, when I was a teenager.

I, too, have had lots of yellow goldfinches and some cardinals here of late, but I cannot get a decent picture of any of them - nice one Terry!

And though I really am not partial to the color red, and try very hard not to plant red flowers, except for a few red/orange for my hummers, I just LOVE the color of cardinals because they are so bright and cheerful on a dreary winter day!!!

#&*! IT! Now I gotta catch a TON of Northern Cardinals, build a cage to keep them in alive happy and healthy, and then transport them all the way to the State of Washington, from the State of Tennessee. How am I gonna do that. And those Northern cardinal bite like heck when you take them out of the net after capturing them. Those short heavy beaks can strip the skin and meat of a finger right down to the bone!
