I planted a Gala apple seed thumbupr from the apple I was eating.. Last spring.. The tree is almost 3 feet tall now ..Outside.. Wont be true but will be fun to watch......

Your not too far north.. Those grow better there than they do in Penna.

Oh sweet!! I love Gala apples.. and peaches!! What did you mean your apple tree won't be true? It won't produce apples?? Why not?? What other fruit trees could I consider?? Where is a good resource.. to buy them from?? How exciting!! Yay!

lol lol

I meant they would cheat on you >............ lol lol lol

What that means......They will not be the exact apple you would get from the Original Gala tree if you bought it ........

I am zone 5 and upper Ohio is zone 5 .. What town are you in?

YOu can purchase all of those apples and peaches for zone 5.. Do you have a nursery near?

I have apple trees but guess their too late.Meaning winter apples are late apples.

You can do it .

hahaha.. cheat on me.. haha

Hmm.. so it wouldn't be the same kind of Gala apple? Is that because you planted it from a seed? If I buy a Gala apple tree, will I get apples like the ones I buy now?? This is very confusing..

I am near Cambridge.. in Guernsey county. And I am not sure if I have a nursery near here that deals in trees or not.. I suppose I should do some checking.. when is the best time to buy/plant fruit trees??

Gala Apples, Peaches.. is there anything else that would do well here?

I will check my book 2 maro and tell you more.

They are a good one.

I've never had alot of luck with those mail order places. I got a couple trees last year from Lowes and even one of those I think is dead

Hmm.. I probably wouldn't order fruit trees thru the mail either.. IF I can help it at all. I will just have to see what is available locally.. or close anyway. lol I know of one place that I have never been to.. I don't know if they offer fruit trees or not.. and even if they do, they may not have what I am looking for.. I may HAVE to do the mail order thing I guess after considering what I have around here to work with.

If you want some Gala apple trees from seeds, get seeds of two different varieties; one as a rootstock & one as a scion. Grow both seedlings & get a bud from the scion & graft it onto the rootstock. Hopefully, the bud will grow. After a couple years of training, you'll have a Gala apple tree.Good growing!!

My backyard's has so many trees, I can't plant anymore or they'll shade my garden.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

P.S. My backyard is of medium size-I don't live in a subdivision.

I live about a quarter mile from the city limits of Merced. I have enough firewood to last a year. I can stay warm since I'm overweight, my boby will use up fat to keep me warm.I better lose some weight.

LOL @ Dodge.. I need firewood!! That is our sole source of heat!!

I have been looking at Gala apple trees on a couple different sites and it says to pollinate with a Golden Delicious.. I don't really WANT a Golden Delicious.. =( Is that my only option.

I haven't researched the Peach trees yet.. I figure I need to get a good grasp on the Apple trees first.. and I came up with the idea to do Blackberry bushes too.. hehe.. but that is a different thread!

It probably is a mini tree also......Not worth the gamble..

Hey.........Got the seeds today...........Thanks for them.
I put the Magnolias in the freezer..

Others I will try to grow inside..

Becky gets her mail after work, she should have gotten it by then..
I will let you know

You did a good job with corners.. I also use empty tea bag holder for seeds.
Any thing goes.....

yea i now enrique! and it didn't look that well either! i don't thing it was a miniature its about 5'0 so maybe a dwarf... but yea its a rip off when u get get a lil fruit tree plant thats growing at homde depot i think for 4 bucks... no i do not have any fruit trees pinkhorse, i used to when i was little we used to have 1 orange tree it had the best oragnes the tree mustve been really old becuas eit was huge but our neighbor made us cut it down saying the leaves got in their yard but instead of making a scene we cut it down but it reprouted haha! then we had 2 grapefruit treess.... at my gmas house now though she has 2 grapefruit trees 3 oragnce trees one loquat tree and a lemon tree... she used to have though at her old house 14 orange trees and 5 grape fruit trees and 2 lemon trees and 1 lime tree. lol but her yard isnt as big now... and i would buy fruit trees for 4 bucks but their not dwarf and we rent so im not going to put a big growing tree like that in a yard thats not mine and it would be hard to dig up...

I have 3 peach trees in my yard......from my dads trees across the street...he's always finding new peach trees growing around the yard and I've been taking them off his hands....the tallest is only about 4 foot though so they have a few more years to grow yet. Testy trees, dad has had several totally die from frosts hitting them in the spring.

I just saw a doughnut peach tree in the Park seed catalog.. anyone know much about it?? It says it is entirely self fertile.. so I wouldn't have to mess with different varieties.. I know nothing about peach trees.. as far as what is a good kind to get.. anyone have any suggestions as far as varieties that are better than others?? Thanks!
