We grow brusseels sprouts every year, and they are really good. Mo plants them in June,so they are ready for fall,we have them around Nov till the middle off Jan. We love them for Christmas dinner,we also have them for Thanksgiving. I have priced them in the stores and they are really exspensive, thats why we started growing are own,and they taste so much better. They do need a lot off watering in the summer months, and they do like the first frost, even though we cover them upso they wont get too much frost. Make sure you get healthy looking plants,I cann't understand why yours does'nt grow. Explain to me where you plant them. Faye wavy

here is my answer to your request:

When I had planted mine in my garden back at "the farm" the soil there was/is wonderfully rich. so that was not the problem. I guess perhaps i did not water enough. (the girls were small then)

now, in this yard, the garden bed is raised & Rod put in a good balance of soils for me, so all i have to do is fertilize & keep it up. Thanks for the advice.

They are a cold weather plant.

Yep Dodge--that was my problem.

I guess I could ask my dad--he grows them--but then gardening is a way of life for him--greenhouse and all !

You have to cook them........ rose

If you like cabbage you should like brussel s.
Baby cabbages..........
I use them in soup or just cook and serve with butter..
Maybe us elders have a greater desire for good food.

I :ding: Brussels Sprouts....have since I was a kid.

It's funny though, I can't stand cabbage at all...but I love Brussels Sprouts. They are great with butter or even a little gravy or cheese on them. grin

OH Loz, try this or have your mom try it this way & then see what you think of cabbage then.

Chop the cabbage up rough chop in size.
fry/saute it in butter until cooked thru. add cooked bow tie pasta and then add more butter--saute a bit more to blend flavors a bit. Youy can then season with salt & papper if desired. Yummy!!!

DO not use spread or low fat butters/margarines.
