WHO will win the race for the first ripe tomatoes? Anybody growing seedlings? Anybody planting transplants in their garden yet? The winner takes the GLORY & the losers will have to try again next year!

I'm attempting to get a ripe tomato by Memorial Day. I haven't succeeded the last few years, but thing are looking good so far. My plants were ready to transplant up to their 8 inch pots a week or more earlier this year. I'm going to cover the early tomato patch with clear plastic within the week to warm the soil and to help it dry off in preparation for outdoor planting in roughly 4 weeks.

I've been getting a few tomatoes off of my neighbor's plant all winter. It is unusual even in Ca. It is a volunteer plant that found a very happy spot to grow. She just sold her house though so I guess I will have to wait for home-growns later.

The person who sowed their tomato seeds fist would probably be the winner, but the first tomato would probably come from a greenhouse plant.
