Last September, I drove up to Aurora, WV for my 30th High school reunion. The next day, I took a leisurely trip home doing some sight-seeing on the way. Here are some of the pictures.
This is Blackwater Falls State Park at Davis, WV. I used to live just 16 or 17 miles north of here.
Seneca Rocks. One of the premiere rock-climbing locations in the east. The US military trained here for one of the World Wars. Part of the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, the very first National Recreation Area designated by the US Forest Service.
View from near the summit of Spruce Knob--highest point in WV--4683 ft in elevation.

Here's another of my favorite pictures from Spruce Knob. Being so high, the climate is pretty fierce in the winter. The trees tend to be one-sided, and in slightly more protected areas than this, the lowest branches are actually longer than the height of the trees.
This is the view from the observation platform near the left summit of Seneca Rocks.
Germany Valley. There is a historical marker here that states: "In Germany Valley is the site of Hinkle's Fort built in 1761-1762. It was the only defense of the South Branch (of the Potomac) after Fort Upper Tract and Fort Seybert were destroyed by Shawnee Indians under Killbuck, April 27-28, 1758."
Wow Loz, you were even closer to the border than I was. Different part though. I think I may have told you before that I lived about 1 1/2 miles west of the Garrett County line, 1/2 mile south of Eglon. I really enjoyed that trip. It was a really scenic drive. I love WV!
I'm just a few minutes from the base of Backbone Mountain going up into Garrett County. WV really is beautiful...I think it has a bum rap...all the WV jokes and such....My niece lives near Charlestown WV, and my sister is in Front Royal VA.....so I'm around and thru WV a lot for different reasons.
I couldn't see Backbone Mt. from where I lived as there was a hill in the way, but from the top of that hill I could look across 219 and see it. Can you see those HUGE windmills they have on Backbone now just north of Thomas? You're probably too far north for that.
