The cost of flour is going up. I guess I'll have to cut down on baking. When flour's on sale,it always sells out before I get a chance to go shopping with my mom. What a bummer. boohoo

wow is it really that high? i havent back anything for sometime we buy baking stuff and food stuff in bulk... we have a membership to sams clube and you can get big bags of flour it lasted us a few months, lol... it was unbleached though... I find the unbleached u have to use more flour in especialy when making puff pastry... but like i said i havnt baked in quite sometime so i do not know how much it is here...

If you have enough land you can plant the things required to make your own flour, i think that would be cool! i wish i had land...

I could possibly grow wheat in winter to make flour.

If you intend to make your own flour you'll need a wheat grinder. The are costly and very, very loud. The other thing you need to know is that after you make your own flour it needs to be used within a few months. Although you can keep the wheat in kernal form for just about forever. Do not put it in air tight containers though. That will kill the germ and then it can go bad.

Just some FYI I have stored in my beady little brain lol.

I've heard that by the summer flour would be at an all time high....meaning that some companies would stop making pasta products because of the cost. Bread and all other products are gonna jump drastically in price.

It's been a bad two years for wheat production driving the prices sharply.

I'm not in panic mode yet but I go through ALOT of flour. It's already $12 a bag here normally.

Tammy we grew our own wheat when Valarie was small--after she had The Little Red Hen read to her--
we just put the 'harvested' wheat in a blender, & blended it. It worked out just fine. and it made great tasting biscuits.

I also keep my flour in the freezer whether I make the flour or just buy it when it is on sale--keeps it as long as I need.

and a note in passing-----a Loaf of bread went up $1.00 from last week to this week in my area.

I think flour's so expensive because all the farmers are growing corn for ethanol instead of wheat.
