I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Good luck on your CAHSEE, Enrique. If you are a fair to average student, you will probably do well on it. And if you miss out on part, you have a few more chances at it before graduating. But it is much more fun to get it out of the way when you are a sophomore.

Is it just a thing they do in CA? We don't have anything like that here.

They instituted it a couple of years ago. Last year (I think) was the first graduating class that needed to pass or not graduate. You can get a 4.0 report card and never graduate if you don't pass it. It sucks that way. But Jonni is a poor-to-mediocre student and she passed it first go around last year. She tests well.
Some states have them and some don't. I think NY calls them the regents tests.

They have them here in Canada as well, it's called Provincial Assessments. They get three tries to pass it...if not, no diploma can be issued.

They don't get the diploma until they pass it. There are adult ed classes available for more tries at it after the four years of high school.

There is something similar in Virginia, where my sister lives.

We have end of grade testing in NC and even if you have a 4.0 but don't pass the EOG you have to attend summer school.

they have it here and in florida too. here, you can take it twice a year all 4 years. and if you get to the end of high school and don't pass it, they have the option of issuing a certificate of attendance. not a diploma.

In a week and a half Jonni is taking the CHSPE; Ca high school proficiency exam. If she passes it, she can walk with this year's class, a year early. And go on to college. Probably not a four year university but start at a community college level. The exam is only offered 2 times a year and you pay for it and make an appointment. It is a little more than getting a GED but not the same as a HS diploma. I hope she passes but it is not that desperate a situation if she doesn't. It would be another accomplishment under her belt, though. And open up some options for her.

Yes, those are pretty much for everyone every year. Hoping for the best for all of your tests Enrique. And I didn't mean to hijack your topic. I am sorry.

In 2000 they implemented the same sort of thing here. I think it is becoming more of a standard practice in a lot of states. Not such a bad idea I don't think!
