we had electric when we first moved in here and then we had a big ice storm and the power was off for a week, so we set everything up where we can go with out power for a week now
gas heat and a generator for power

I have gas here and most of the time I freeze.
I/we had wood heat at 'the farm'.
well it was really that the wood heated the water and then the water was piped to the house & then a converter blew the heat from the water up and into our exisitng forced air furnace lines. it was great--cheap & wonderfully warm heat.
Bless my DH-----he built the stove for me----we had the shed it was put in already.

I miss it so very much !!!!

they say that's the warmest kind of heat.

I usually run mine, warm the house up and turn it off til the house cools again

I sure can attest to THAT. And I think you have to have it to really understand.

Funny story: the first winter we had the wood stove--DH misjudged the amount of wood it would take to get thru til spring.--so when we ran out in early march he said well, we'll just run the gas furnace the rest of time this year.--well I like to foze to death--in comparison not actuallity--(same temperature mind you--so he went out & got me more wood---Bless that man !!

Rod talks about putting a wood stove downstairs---but this one would not be a hot water wood burner-----but we shall see.

It's warm for sure. I have a small airtight stove and alot of the times we have to open a window to leave some of the heat out. My house is small and insulated well, so it overheats in here.....as it is right now.

It's flurrying out again.

Mark would love to go up there. Do you ever have to worry about carbon monoxide with the house being sealed up from the snow? Mark had asked me about enough oxygen getting inside with it being all insulated.

its doing more than 'flurry' here-- the weather man just said it is coming down 1 to 2 inches an hour--(its 10:45)-and it will continue thru until past lunch time into the early afternoon---But it shuold quit in time for rush hour.
which is good because the visability is very poor and Rod is at work.

I so wish you could send me some of that nice heat, So, please enjoy it for me, OK???

That's a lot an hour! It's POURING down rain here righ tnow....I mean cats and dogs type of rain....I just ran back from lunch at moms and got soaked..... We're under flood watch, that reminds me---Tam do you flood when it all melts? I think I asked you before, maybe you answered and I missed it.

We flood for sure, we all have sump pumps and have to make drains in our yards for the water to carry to the ditches.


I keep my windows shovelled so I don't worry about carbon dioxide, we open our windows and doors alot also because our house overheats often.

I'll send y'all some heat....it's boiling in here.

I'd take it....while it is 50 degrees outside, it's very chilly in my house right now....

Didn't you say that they haul a lot of the snow to the ocean? I told Mark that when he asked me what all the places there do with the snow....I hope I told him right.

Yup, they scoop it up and dump it in the ocean. There's no other place to put it. Trucks have been working 24/7 for snow removal. They are already 50% over budget for their winter maintenance.

Wow, I wonder where they get the extra money from?

So how close are you to the ocean then? I'm glad my brain actually remembered something correctly.

They take the money from the summer budget.....meaning the roads don't get repaired and less men are hired for casual work.

Wow I didn't realize you lived so close! Do you walk to the ocean a lot? I just never thought of a farm being close to the ocean---guess I'm stuck thinking of a lot of midwest american farms in the middle of nowhere.

I don't go that often....a shame I know.

The farm where we used to work bordered against the ocean. His land had beach frontage.

It is funny to think of beach frontage where you live Tam! I know it is not always like it is now but to think of that this time of year just doesn't sound right to me!

Heck with all the housework, I'd be at the beach in the summer.

I don't like the beach Loz....(don't slap me ). I don't like sitting in the heat.

Mind you, going to the beach for a night party is a load of fun.

Mor snow for this week the weatherman says.

Over here the weatherman predicted rain next week which means more snow on the east coast

Add us to your club......We don't dig setting in the beach and sweating. It is so much more fun working in the yard and doing something.. I feel worth while there..

Loz.....town isn't my bag..But all my brothers an sisters and son live there.
I have to be doing something or I am sooooooooooo bored. NOt being rude, Just in my bloom. TO each his own.

Livng in town here is not so bad--
but then 'town' has only around 1,000 people.

I have about the same amount of yard proper for planting my flowers & veggies ( I will say veggie garden is about 1/2 as big, though) But I do not have the larger area that needs the grass clippings raked.
With the exception of the warmest months I had 3 acrea to rake each week.---I used the dried clippings to mulch my garden--and especaially my blackberry bushes.
so not as many clippings these days (we only have 1/2 acre now) and not near as much excercize.

My town if you can call it that is only 3,000 people. Very rural where I live.

I wouldn't go to the beach in the heat of the day, but early in the morning or in the evening I would love it....for photography reasons alone....and there is just something energizing about the ocean. But I'm not one to go and sit on the beach all day, that's boring to me.

We have about 80 people in our little 'village' here.

They call my area a village too, but we got lots more than 80.
My farm is the last one before all the houses begin.....However I have no idea how many.

I'm 20 miles from the nearest anything (grocery, gas, school, hospital etc) I have 2 neighbors (one on each side, my cousin and my aunt) my cousin has his kids living at home again and so there are 12 of them over there right now. My aunt lives alone and then me and Ashley. Now that's rural.

That IS rural.

We at least have a few places like McDonalds, Subway, a pizza place, gas station, and a Dollar General and Movie store.

It's 6 miles for us to get to Walmart/groceries.

OK--in town here we have a grocery, a paper, a Deli , a bank facility, 3 churches I think it is, 2 schools, a dentist a firehouse, a funeral parlor and 2 taverns.
but 6 miles in either way will get us to much more---so it is all good.
walmart is 16 miles either way

I'm at least a half hour drive from anything and an hour from town. We have a little grocery shop 15 minutes from here but it's so pricey.

yea the groceries close to here are pricy too. DH likes to take me to the one in the nexrt closest town (about 3 miles away) but while it is close & has a nice hot food deli, it too is so much more expensive that I do not like to go there.

I just go to the close grocery stores if I have run out of something, ya know?

Want to know how many churches a town of 3,000 like mine has?

Can you believe 9!!!! Lots of religion going on around these parts.

WOW---well the town 6 miles up the road here that has about a 5,000 population, has 11 churches--I just counted from the phone book.

Not much to do around here in these small town for entertainment---but you can sure find yourself a good church.

Back to the snow topic---we're supposed to get snow Saturday....I don't know if I'm happy about that or not....we haven't got much this year really so one more last hurrah might be okay.

I think we are supposed to get more tomorrow as well. but not to fear--this time of year even a heavy snow seems to melt quickly.

Must be a shared thing, snow for us Saturday and Sunday as well. They say the almanac says that 4 feet of snow will fall this month. Hope it falls soon, I wanna get it over with.

you got that thought right--IF we are gonna get anymore this year--I too wish it would hurry up and happen---

well if they dump enough in the Ocean AND they get some good march winds perhaps she will be able to see some flowers...IF...IF...IF...
