I know what gopher holes look like....But now my huge garden is covered with holes, but most of the holes don't go all the way through, like regular gopher holes. There aren't any mounds, either, like gophers usually make.

Anyone know what these holes are caused by, and how to prevent them? My beautiful garden looks like a war zone.

Thanks for any help!

Chip

Possible mole holes? I have got both in my yard--usually with the moles they leave little trails, like the soil has been pushed up from underneath. Like bugs bunny, digging underground on a trip. I just wanna sit out there, with two pistols and wait for those "nasty varmits" to come out, just like Yosemite Sam would (although I probably would look like Elmer Fudd).

Would the holes be about the size of a critter nose foraging for insects?

My guess would be armadillos. They dig lots of holes all over your yard like what you describe--they are looking for insects. Bad way to get insect control in your garden though! If I had the nasty little varmits in my yard, I would definately want LandOfOz's pistols!

canyon squirrels - white spootted like you see at La Jolla bluffs

they like to eat the stems of plants and they dig little latrines too @#$% in.

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!
