Thorny has got me hooked on Galaxy Zoo now and I thought maybe some of you might be interested in seeing some of the photos we happen across. I know I'd like to see his Black Hole photograph. Here is the best spiral galaxy I've run across so far. http://casjobs.sdss.org/ImgCutoutDR...h=512&height=512&opt=&query=I call this one Red stars/Blue flame. I think the blue is just a photographic effect caused by the brightness of the star. http://casjobs.sdss.org/ImgCutoutDR...h=512&height=512&opt=&query=I haven't figured out yet how to post a photo directly instead of just the link.

You cant post direct on here ........You must use a LINK.. There is a reason for that. Let me know when you show a space ship..........

Here is a picture of that massive galactic merger I classified for Galaxy Zoo. I was informed by Astronomers at the University of Cambridge in England, that this may be the largest galactic merger around the most massive black hole EVER seen (to date, I suspect that there may be MANY more out there as spectacular or even more so.) There are as many 4 or 5 galaxies being drawn into the SUPER MASSIVE black hole in the center of the clump.

Space is breath taking. Below is a photo from the Hubble space telescope. Look and see how many stars are in this shot 3 I think, it is like looking through a straw and seeing thousands of galaxies. A huge collection of hubble space telescope pictures that are breath taking can be found at the link below. http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/galaxy_collectionI have a 10 inch Newtonian telescope and with several uhf (ultra high frequency) filters for nebula's it is a lot of fun to take camping and look for all the M objects...

That is one SPECTACULAR galactic cluster. There is what appears to be a really nice yellow, clockwise-spiral galaxy, in the lower right corner.

That looks like a barred arm galaxy
This is also one.
NGC 1300
This may be one of the most spectacular sight in the cosmos.
A great collection of Hubble photos.http://heritage.stsci.edu/gallery/galindex.html

Wow!!!! I've heard of the Cat's Eye but I'd never seen it. Good one!
So they're barred armed galaxies if the arms generate from those "bars" extending out from the core?

I posted it on galaxy zoo or maybe you analyzed it too.? I usually check before I post to see if anyone else has posted it before, so I went back to confirm that, but unfortunately I neglected to post the ID# with it. I've been looking through the list of galaxies I've analyzed, but haven't found it yet. I need to get in the habit of posting the ID# first, before I post the picture.

I joined Galaxy Zoo the second day it went online. At first all the photos had never been seen I catalogued over 6,000 of those, but within 2 months we had analyzed EVERY galaxy on this first sample, over 1,000,000 galaxies. Then we started looking at them again and again, getting multiple opinions on each one. At this time the Astronomers are righting their reports and papers on the new discoveries and there will be NEW samples to analyze soon. So yes, I've seen many of the galaxies in the study more than once.

What a great display of shock waves reaching out over many many millenniums. I have always been a big fan of the nebula's. They are like clouds that make pictures that do not change to any degree over ones lifetime. I think my fascination is because they are stellar nursery's the birth place of stars. like the one below... Ok if those are stars in front of this nebula - this nebula is humungass... Information is from the link below. http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/1995/44/image/a/Open up the 6 mg tiff file with Corel photo paint or some other graphics editor and zoom in...

Ahhhh, the Pillars of Creation, one of the BEST space pictures I have ever seen. I flew through them once, you know.

I haven't been able to get on this site in months. Just tried it on a lark and here I am! Weird Here is a recent Astronomy Picture of the Day that I found most impressive. The high cliffs surrounding Echus Chasma on Mars. These cliffs are 4 kilometers high!! http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080723.html
