Here is a picture of one of the harbingers of spring in Tennessee. Not the prettiest of birds to look at, but the voice and song is exquisite, like the voice of an Angel. A VERY close relative of the Northern Mockingbird and Catbird, INTRODUCING, THE BROWN THRASHER!
BROWN THRASHER
And here is one of the prettiest year-round birds here in Tennessee, The Eastern Blue Bird.

And, using my daughter's Canon Powershot S3 IS camera, like yours Barb, here is my Robin picture
American Robin

You're really getting the hang of your camera, Barb. Those are excellent pictures!
THANK YOU KINDLY THORN.
HAPPY EASTER TO YOU AN WIFEY.
I love them all.. I cant wait for sunny days an going chasing outside. You really got close to the robin.. fat lil buggers.. I thought my one was old when the chest was part white. I see yours is also.
I was, like, 20 feet away from that Robin. These Canon cameras can REALLY pull distant birds up CLOSE! That Brown Thrasher was 20 feet above me in the top of a tree, and that bluebird was 50 FEET AWAY! Canons are GREAT cameras (When combined with the latest version of Adobe Photoshop)!

I saw my first ever towhee yesterday! I have seen them in pictures, but never in person. Not sure if it was spotted or eastern, because I couldn't get close enough to see his side, but it was deffinately one or the other! lol
So far I have cardinals (regulars), chicadees (regulars), goldfinches (on occation), a pileated woodpecker (regular in the fall), robins (of course), what may be a titmouse or 2 (not sure, can't get close enough), and now the towhee.
I'm pretty new at trying to identify the birds, but it's getting easier when I'm able to see all the pictues that ya'll post here. Thanks for sharing them! I'm hoping to talk my husband into buying me a camera soon so that I can try my hand at it!
Annette, you saw an Eastern Towhee. The Spotted Towhee is found in the Western U.S.. The differences are slight. Try to get the best camera you can, with the highest Megapixels and highest OPTICAL zoom (digital zoom is terrible, don't worry about it), you can afford. The best I've found recently is the Canon Powershot S5 IS camera with 12X OPTICAL zoom, and 8 Megapixels. I saw it for $399.00 at Target. You will also want to get at least a 2GB SD photocard (around $40.00) and 4 rechargeable AA batteries with charger. I recommend the 15-Minute rechargeable batteries and charger it costs around $30.00. That is approximately $470.00 before tax, and you have a very good camera setup. I am saving up for one now. Those last three pictures I took on THIS thread, were taken with this camera. I borrowed my daughter's, and Dodge on here has one, too.

That's the camera I use. I got mine for even cheaper from Amazon, even including shipping!
Thorny, you don't like the digital zoom on that camera? I use it all the time! Most of my bird pictures here were with the digital zoom. That cardinal picture I posted today was a magnification of 30 and some of the other pics have been as high as 48x. To me it seems fine for posting. I haven't tried printing photos though, you may not get the quality with blowups.
that's the type of camera I have too. Just like Barb's. Were my rainy day pictures fuzzy because I zoomed to much or too little? And do you know what to do with the videos? I have accidentially taken short videos twice now. The first one I accidentially got to play back, the 2nd I can't - because I don't know how I did it the first time.
Nice pics Barb.....we have a lot of Mourning Doves around here too! Actually I had a pair nest in our gutter a few years back. I like them because they love each other, or at least tolerate each other.
Thanks Loz, this camera is showing me stuff I didnt know. Now for the bad news, hd said folk around here stop by the power lines and shoot them and eat them.. Told me to look for the shells and I will see.
Wish they shoot black birds instead.. Have too many.
if you have cats watch out putting seeds out for the doves. They are ground feeders but when we had cats they could catch them. It seemed that the birds were distracted when eating and the cat could sneak up on them. It was horrible.
