Back in the mid 1970-s I was a member of a book club primarily for astronomy books , but I had to take random books as well. In one order I got a Bettie Crocker cook book. I have used it for a guide for many years and all recipes are very good.

It is the big dark orange one.

Here is the vanilla pudding.

1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons of corn starch
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
2 egg yokes slightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Blend sugar, corn starch and salt in a 2 qt sauce pan.

Combine milk and egg yokes in separate bowl and mix together.

Pour a small portion of the mix in the the sugar mix - just enough to dissolve than add the rest.

Place on medium heat and stir continuously till it boils then continue stirring for 1 minute or till it becomes thick.

Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla till it is well mixed then pour in to bowls and refrigerate...

mmmmmmmmm pudding Enjoy...

The infinitesimally small seed that produces the giant is the winner...
