Does anyone know if wren's make a lot of noise before they leave their nests? A wren laid eggs in the pot of my ficus tree on the porch. I have two labs. They haven't noticed the eggs yet, but I'm wondering what's going to happen once the birds hatch.

I'm not sure on that. Wrens are notorious for building their nests in potted plants. If the dogs seem to be upset about the birds, just try to keep them away from the nest. I have a pet rabbit. When my son brought us a hunting dog puppy I thought the rabbit would be killed in an instant. It turns out the dog and bunny are best friends and hang together all the time. Dogs may not be as aggressive as you think. Now cats on the other hand are a different matter.

Well, my dogs do their fair share of hunting. I guess moles are their specialty. But they've been known to get the occasional squirrel, rabbit, baby deer (very sad with the deer!) and kittens. I'm not sure how they'll react to baby birds, but they don't seem to mind the mama wren coming and going. We'll see. And thanks for the welcome, Bird Man!

I have a lab too. I have been watching a robin for 1-1/2 weeks fly in and out of a bush in the front of my house and day before yesterday I noticed a nest in there. The reason I've been seeing the robin fly in and out is because when I let my dog out he makes a beeline for that bush - making the bird fly out. I, like you, am wondering what will happen if the bird does lay eggs. Yesterday, Porter my dog, was actually trying to climb up into the shrub.

Ha Ha. sounds like you may have more of potential problem than me! I saw from out the kitchen window mama wren headed for her nest with a small worm in her mouth. I haven't gone out to check, but I'm wondering if the little eggs have hatched yet.

The babies have hatched and all is well. They only chatter is when mamma bird brings them food. The dogs lay right on the porch and don't even twitch an ear when the baby's start chattering. Ha ha. (but they can hear a baby rabbit calling for mom a 1/4 mile away) guess my dogs just aren't into birds!

Are you're dogs male? That would explain ignoring the crying babies.

No, they're both female. And they go after lots of prey. I don't really get why the disinterest in the birds? I'm just glad it appears the birds will make it and so will my plants that have the nest baracaded.

I am still laughing!!!!

I was afraid someone would ask....they are gone! One night last week the dogs went crazy wanting to go out at 4 in the am. The next morning the nest was folded back and no babies. My plants that I had stacked in baracading the nest weren't moved at all. I don't know if it was coon's or my dogs, but something got 'em. Do coon's even eat birds? I know they eat our dogs left over food every chance they get.
