Years ago I was given some bulbs dug up out of season. In my ignorance, I planted them when I got them. They grew green and multiplied but seldom flowered and never in season (the narcissus flowered in October) . Today, April 5, I have dug them up again because I was getting rid of huge weeds. (It rained this year in Southern California)... It'd like to wait until September to plant them, but what do I do with them in the meantime? How best to care for them? I live, so far as I can tell, in zone 10a and the bulbs are a mixed lot of narcissus, naked ladies, and I don't know what else.

I've never heard of narcissus blooming in the fall. From what I know, bulbs usually grow and flower after a period of coolness, but don't mark my words. I would say plant them somewhere for the while, and let them leaf out, they need the leaves to make food for the bulb so that it can flower the next year.

Helping the world one seed at a time

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

I would say put them in your refrigerator and plant them in November. Maybe they've been messed up because your area is warm.
