I am very proud, not so much for the bathing, that Robin has a Brood Patch! You rarely see it except in the spring and then only if you are holding the bird. A brood patch is an area of bare skin on the breast where the bird deliberately plucks the feathers from her breast for two reasons. To line the nest and to expose the hot blood-rich tissues in the breast to help warm the eggs and young. By Fall, the feathers have grown back to provide warmth to the adult bird during the Winter.
