I've been needing a new printer for a few months now - mine just up and quit. I thought we were wanting one that was a 4 in 1 - printer, copier, scanner, and fax. But tonight my husband said forget about the fax - hmmmmm!
So... I really want an inexpensive one that is a pretty good photo printer, and 3 in 1 - I've been toying around with making my own greeting cards for a while now, so this is important.
Tell me which kind you have - make and model number - and what you think of it please?
Hewlet Packard (or however they spell it). hp psc 750. It wasn't too expensive several years (3? 4?) ago when we purchased and it runs like a top, still. The ink isn't cheap. Is any? I would repeat this purchase when needed.

That's the thing, isn't it Tina?!? The ink cartridges get you coming and going - half the time it's worth it to just get a new printer instead of buying cartridges!!! Don tried buying some cheap cartridges at computer fairs a few years ago, but the ones he got for my printer were worthless.
The refilled cartridges can mess up your computer, too. So I've heard. So I've stayed away from them. I think my brother told me that and computer stuff is what he does for a living.

Tina, thanks for the info---Kodak's ink is supposed to be inexpensive--but I was looking at wal-greens offer to refill cartridges---now I think I will not actually do it--
thanks again

I am unsure of that info and exactly where I got it from, Junie. But my computer is such a big emotional investment to me, that I don't want to do anything to mess it up. And all of the extended parts too. My neighbor runs refilled cartridges all the time for his business. He has breakdowns often also. But he uses his printer so much more than I do. I think you might want to ask an expert and one that isn't trying to sell you something.

I believe I have the same one as Tina. It sounded like the same number as mine so I looked it up and it is. I have had mine for 6 years and it still works great!! I did just get a new printer though because I wanted one with wireless capability for the laptop. I would have to look at the model of that one. I haven't hooked it up yet so I couldn't tell you how it works.
mine is an hp, but i don't know the model. i'll check. prints pictures well as well as other stuff. scans too. it's a 3 in 1.
i have ran refilled cartridges in years past, but if i can afford a new cartridge, i get it. or a brand name recycled one. i don't use cheap ones ever. you go through too much ink to calibrate the refilled cartridges and it doesn't save money in the long run. between the time, ink and paper.
ok, that's my 2 cents worth. i'll get the model number tonight or tomorrow and post it. and mine was under $100. (probably closer to $50)
Someone is blowing smoke. I have a Lexmark L725 and a Lexmark copy print an scan /fax....... The single printer was free after the rebate.......I get refills all the time. Cannot say it isnt worth it ..... Don't know at all how the refill would mess up my computer.. It doesnt run down into the the computer at all..... When you reload it primes itself.
Perhaps when one works for the computer business, there is more of a kickback for new cartridges .. Maybe I are wrong.
What I like about my combo Lexmark.. It was on sale , and it is wireless, if I ever go that route. And I can scan with it , which the printer doesnt do. It scans an either prints it or copys it to my computer. Which I can save for use. I often copy photos for my family and share them online. I can copy them and send it clear to Switzerland if I want. Can't do that with a printer..... My Combo has a little window where I can see my photos before they are to be printed . And it tells all the extra stuff you can do with it . I find it a neat package. X9350
If you plan to print pictures and want them to look nice I would not buy cheap cartridges. My friend did that once and she had to go back to the store and buy the name brand because they were terrible. If you are just going to use it for everyday printing of papers and such then I think they are okay. I don't buy them though because you never know when I might print a picture. This is just my opinion though.
I took a look in Staples the other day, but didn't see anything I liked for the prices. I also looked at the fax machine that was on sale and it looked pretty cheap so I didn't get that either.
So now it's back to a 3 in 1 that I am looking for...
hmm, I don't usually get the chance to go do research on printers, but if I had to give one recommendation it'd be on the HP Photosmart C6180... It's the top rated AIO (All in One) printer on NewEgg...
It's an InkJet, Fax/Print/Copy/Scan with 2 paper trays with a built in 64mb memory. It has USB and Network ports, as well as PictBridge (for a digital camera) and wireless (802.11G) so you can also do printer sharing on your network.
When I shop for my own printers I generally look for:
Network Connectivity (you know, so I don't have to move documents to one machine to do printing; or fiddle with printer sharing on a computer which would have to always be on in order to print)
Print/Copy/Scan
PictBridge is a great addition as you can just drop your camera into the port and print directly.. It's not a nessessity unless you do a lot of digital camera work (like me!)

lwt me just say I do not NOT like lexmark printers their ink is so expensive had one of their 3 in one models right when they started getting really popular like 30 bucks for a black cartiraidge and then the scanner went to heck after a motnth... I also do like like epson but only for the printer not the 3 in ones I have been through 2 3 in one lexmark rinters in 2 months the scanner broke and then they would not power up and the copy features kept on not working... I have bad time with printers but i do have a hp 3 in one now and i love it and it works great.
pleaseee... Betty Crocker aint got nothing on me =)

My free Lexmark is 3 years old, and just quit.....
3 in one lexmark is still here.. I have looked at all cartridges prices in other makes , none of them are cheap. Sister has to buy 3 to run hers.........Just use them less. I shall scream it it breaks .. Wireless , 2 trays ,usb, a4 slots and I dont know what all?
Mine is about 5 months old so far.. 3 in 1 lexmark .......so we wait and we ponder.. Sister has HP and it is a real problem. It picks the sheets up in a hunk and flips them and messes up . Then the coloring goes bad. I dont recommend any....They all take ink.LOL
Got my Kodak easy share on Woot--for a reallly good price. the only thing with it is kodak admits a problem with the printer heads---but will replace them if need be--so far mine is working great!!! prints/scans/copies & does photos.
Ink is 22.99 for a combo of the colored & black--
other wise it is like 9.99 for black & 14.99 for colored.
