We planted some shasta daisies last year and now I've been reading that they are one of the most invasive plants out there.

I can't handle flowers like that in my small area so help me to get rid of them. We still have frozen ground here so I don't think they've turned green yet. What should I do?

If what I have read is correct it is the Ox-eye daisy( Chrysanthemum leucanthemum)that is invasive not the shasta daisy(Leucanthemum x superbum).

Prohibited in the States of Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Washington, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

Shasta daisies spread alot by seed...but they are not invasive. Just dig out the plants you don't want, in fact you can usually just pull them out.

My coneflowers spread faster than my shastas.....just to give you an idea.

I get the Canadian Gardening magazine and the flower is the one Gardencrazy mentioned shasta daisy(Leucanthemum x superbum.

Thanks for the reminder to look at the difference in the daisies. I live in zone 3b, our last frost was in the first week of June and the last one wasn't till mid Sept last year.

Even with that I just may take them out, my flower bed is a bit too small.

Well that is definitely a good idea, but I have so many already that.............Oh well it's still a good idea.

Plant some in containers.. Like an old wheelbarrel or something.

Yup, like Dodge suggested, in containers to stop runners for forming (if they form runners...I don't know) I don't think they'll be too invasive in 3B

Containers......hey great idea, I think I'll dig mine out and find an old wash barrel or something and in it goes.

Rosepetal, just do it ..The sky is the limit.
I live on a farm and i plant lots in huge flower pots or anything that will hold dirt.. I sometime take the plastic bags that you buy soil in, and slit the top and plant seeds there an let it set.. No weeding to be done.
Also what we do here, put a bushel like container on its side, like it is spilled, and add soil and flowers.. Looks like some one spilled a bushel of blooms........

I planted some chrysanthemum seeds this year called snowland. On the picture they look like tiny daisies....white with yellow button noses....that's actually why I thought I'd try them. They sure came up nice may be transplanting them this week already into my greenhouse.

The ox eye daisy is outlawed because it is soooo invasive. The cultivated sashta daisy, was the result of a cross between the ox eye daisy and another daisy (from europe I think). The sashta daisy is less invasive, had much showier blooms and is so much easier to control and get rid of.

what is the chrysanthemum primrose.. I have it growing from seed and love the foilage. It is sort of white like lambs ears.

me too, I tell you I have lots of places I'd love for these pretty things to bloom

that's pretty Belinda. I have yellow primrose too. I'll save you some seeds too.

Sure doesn't take long for them to spread does it. I don't want that to happen to my small flower bed though. So thanks for showing the picture.
