Tomorrow I'm going to take the STAR test. I take it every year as well as other students in California. I'm going to sleep early tonight. Tomorrow is the English portion of the test.

Standardized testing and reporting (star) is a test given to every student grade 2-11 every year. It is basically measuring each students by standards and then according to their scores it measures the schools and then the districts. Then they figure funding. A lot of pressure put on the kids to do well.

Thanks, Tina---the Lutheran schools here have Iowa Basic Skills tests---I really do not know if the public schools use the same tests or not---but i am guessing every state does this type of testing. why

I think almost all schools have to do something similar for the no child left behind act. And for federal funding.

Here the kids do TAKS testing. same thing. I hate it! yes, lots of pressure for the students and the teachers. My saying is 'the world revolves around the taks test' Some students are held back if the school thinks they won't do well on the taks test the following year. they care more about the outcome of the test and how they will look than the welfare and motivation of the students. I have a couple of cousin's that are teachers that are wanting to get out of that profession because of these test. the kids are taught from kindergarden how to bubble in answers! seems like their time would be better spent on letters, numbers, and colors.
