I just started a hydroponic garden in my basement in January (I couldn't wait the 4 months or so to plant vegetables outdoors in my area.)

Today I planted a few carrots outside (I don't know if it is too early but seeds are cheap.) I joined the forum to learn more about gardening as I don't really have a clue about what I'm doing. In fact, when I picked some seed at the store I didn't bother to look, so when I got home I found the plant from these seeds might grow to 15'. Surprise! I guess next time I should look for little details like that.

I joined the site to read others experiences and to get ideas on what to do and how to do it.

Did you find that costly?

I just use a heating cable in a storage top and started in march.
Now have oodles of flowers and tomatoes and peppers.

Yeah. Very costly. The light was a big thing. Then power for the light. I just harvested my first zucchini from my basement garden today. I'm calling it my $500 zucchini :)

ha ha......$500.00 zucchini! like I tell my husband, my gardening habit isn't any cheaper than his hunting habit. you can buy the stuff from the store, but it is just NOT the same.
I've been wondering about the hydroponics myself. since I've joined this site I have been inspired by the folks that grow tomatos...in places like canada...in December! hadn't even heard of heated grow pads till I joined this site.
I'd like to hear more on your hydropoics. does the water have to be running...like a fountain...heated...???
