Hi! My name is Alice and I live in the southeast corner of Arizona. I have never done gardening before but I've always wanted to have a beautiful garden. I have pigeons and doves and would like to make their loft into a garden. The walls of the loft are made of chicken wire and on the aviary side there is not a solid roof; the roof there is also made of chicken wire. I want to cover the chicken wire with some type(s) of climbing plant(s), preferably with pretty flowers, but even the plant leaves making a thick wall would be wonderful. I have one climbing (Tombstone) rose planted that has started growing and climbing, but other than that, I am starting from nothing. My ultimate goal would be to make the whole loft look totally natural with natural looking perches and things. Anyway, as I said, I'm a total newbie and need a lot of help! :) I want your ideas, tips, and instructions. I'm looking forward to learning a lot!

We love new gardeners, so ask away in the appropriate spots and we'll help as much as we can. Starting from nothing can seem overwhelming, but it's great too---a blank slate!
Thanks for the warm welcome! "Asking away" in the "appropriate spots" will be my first task, I guess; I'm not sure where to start! How do you suggest I start???
I looked it up and I believe I'm in 8b. I didn't even think of Morning Glorys and I love them! We used to have some big blue ones when I was a little girl (not that long ago ; I'm still a teenager). Where do you suggest that I start, Dodge? What is the first thing that I need to do? Do I need to plan first (if so, what needs to be planned?) or just start adding plants that I want to grow? Sorry for all the questions!

If you use the morning glories they go far, so watch the size thing well, so you have tall flowers or what ever in back and , shorter and shorten infront.
I love the cypress vine but they are for part shade.. Brown eyed daisy vine, on ly grows 5 foot tall.
DOnt try to do it all at one time.. Or you will get upset and quit.
Will the cypress vine grow in my zone? I looked for pictures of it on google and it is pretty. Is it a type of morning glory? Is it the fifth picture in this link: http://www.fothergills.ca/?crn=237 ? That was one of the pictures that came up when I googled "cypress vine." The loft is about 7' tall. There are areas of full sun, partial sun, and almost constant shade. There is a solid roof on 2/3 of it and only a chicken wire covering on the South 1/3 of it. The East wall is wood, not chicken wire.
That sounds easier because then I don't have to worry so much about trying to search for what can and can't grow. If I do that, then all that I have to worry about is what plants I like; if some won't grow, they'll be plenty more that I like.
Pretty much any thing grows in california, cause my friend for years sends me her photos yearly and I know ........Her roses are in bloom now.. ANd gorgous trees.
