Here are the pictures of my smocked baby bonnet. Yes, it is on my paper towel holder.
Please remember that this is the first smocking project I have ever done. The blue things are flowers and the little green things are leaves.

that is very nice glenda. i thought about trying smocking, but that was before they had the machine smocked stuff. i didn't want to fool with buying a smocking board
I didn't do the pleating. That was done at a local shop. All I did was the embroidery. The local shop sells the pleating machine for about $200 but will do the pleating for $ 8-10 a garment. If anyone wants to see, I have a practice piece I'm working on to make sure I have the right colors for a dress I'm doing. You can see what it looks like just pleated with only a little emboidery.

Thanks Dodge I also have a straight sewing machine and a serger. As soon as I find the right size pillow insert, I'll show the pillow I made using the serger.

Smocking is a lot of work but it is work you can travel with. My instructor said she works in the car, (when she is not the one driving), when waiting at the doctors office, and anyplace else she has to sit and wait. She said when she has a project it is with her almost all the time.
I'm doing a dress for a 4 year old but the dress is sized for a 5 year old. It may take me a while to get it done.

No, the bonnet was the first smocking project I've done. I've been sewing for about 4 years now but not clothing. I try not to ever make clothing!

I really like that bonnet! Remember the sewing machine I got for Christmas? I've been working hard on learning sewing and have had quite a few trial and errors but I have managed to improve and learn along the way. After the apron that I made I practiced making pillow with scrap material from blanket my mpmmadw the girls so they now have pillows to match their "quillows". Then I moved on to trying a scrub shirt for work. It's finding nemo and turned out pretty good except I accodently sewed the back collar on backwards so the interfacing shows. LOL. I recently finished a pair of Capri drawstring pajama pants. Had some issues with he pieces fitting together correctly but they ended up turning out okay. I was having trouble with my machine jamming and ittuened out I had the needle in backwards. Now I know how to put a new needle in correctly. My next project is going to be my first zipper project. I'm making a hooded zip up fleece jacket. I also have patterns for elastic waste pants, a top to teach me how to do sleeves, a gardening bucket organizer, and some dresses for the girls and skirts for me. I don't think I'll get bored or run out of things to work on for a while. I'll have to get pics of the things I've made. I don't know if I can upload pics from my phone or if I have to use the computer.
you can upload from your phone to photobucket, but i don't know how. i always just text the picture to my email, save on the computer and upload that way

Good girl in your sewing.. I can give you a few pointers .. I am an accomplished sewer myself.. To get the piece to fit more easily. At the beginning of say your waist , sew a few stitches......with the needle down, it will hold the material. Now take the ends in your left hand , make it even and hold that. Take the right hand and hold those 2 pieces about half way down. Snugly. NOw as you sew , try to work it in as far as the first half.. Keeping it snug. Then do it to the end...... YOur material has a bit of give to it, and you can tug a little on it.

I don't even know what a serger is but I know that bonnet is beautiful. That last pillow is just what I've been looking for. No kidding. I was telling my mother about it yesterday. I have a chair that needs a pillow shaped like that and they're hard to find. My mother has one but she won't give it to me. Thanks for sharing.
They are quick and fun. Great for making hooded tops from fleece..... And many other things.........
I'd love an embroidery machine, but dont think I have enough things to do with it , to justify owning...... You can down load patterns for them online, if your on the computerize type.
The last pillow, the rectangle one, has a 20 oz. bag of polyester fiberfill in it. Right now the fiberfill is still in the bag it came in because I have not yet made a liner to put it in.
If you want the finished dimensions of the pillow so you can make one that size, PM me and I'll send them to you.
All of the stitching on the outside of the light colored neck roll pillow were also done on the serger.
