Well today I put the Ornamental Grass that was in the back being overgrown by weeds into pots in preparation for the move.
I also got the abused hosta into a pot. It didn't want to move from where I had it. It had really put down some roots. But I'm sure it will like it's new home even better.
Then I dug up the lillies and put them in a pot since someone had dumped a load of sand on top of them. And I didn't know what all it might have had in it. So now mama and baby are in a pot ready for me to find them a sunny location at the new place. Don't ask me where that is going to be because I just don't know.
And I lifted the tulip that's leaves had finally died back. I still have one tulip in the container that hasn't died back and there are two in the back that are still green. I'm hoping that some of these are the President Kennedies that Dodge sent me last year. I have my fingers crossed. They are going in the foundation bed as soon as I get moved in. Before any of the boxes get unpacked.
Well that's it for the morning effort. I'm so excited that it's gardening season again.
Today I put the mums, hostas, glads, lilly of the valley, freesia, and some daffs and crocuses in pots. I still have a bunch of plants to put in pots for the move. I'll have to get some more pots soon.
I planted some irises and hosta's yesterday because hubby was having a cow for me to get my "junk" out of the wagon...hummmm...no I can fill it back up

lol that sounds like a good plan to me. I'm busy trying not to buy every plant in sight. Today I went to K-Mart for some file folders fortunately they didn't have any so I didn't feel like standing in line for something that wasn't on my list. Otherwise there were some snapdragons that I really like that would probably have come home with me.
I'll be doing nothing in the garden today. it has been raining since before sun up. I sure wasted my time yesterday afternoon watering! should have checked the weather.

If I don't water it doesn't rain. If I do then it does. lol I know that one.
Sometimes the rain is when I like it best for weeding. The soil here is mostly clay so the rain really softens it up so I can get the weeds roots. I don't know what it will be like in my new place. I'm hoping that it will be ok soil.
Well, I'm still watching my snow melt and assessing(sp?) the damage. Guess I'll be buying lots of replacement things this year. So I haven't been out in the garden but I have been making a list...

I inished raking the last flower bed off today. Everything things seem to have survived as far as flowers. Have a real sick bridal bush though. Want to transplant some lupins from the asparagus bed back to the flower garden before Friday as rain is coming that day.
Here are some pictures of what is blooming today.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
Wow everyones been busy outside in their gardens but me... Mines fairly low low maintence just weeding... lol Out front mostly cactus, (mother of thosands) then a aloe, some type of palm tree bush, (my sweet peas arent doing worth a darn they are very slow growers? im thinkin bout pulling them up and mixing some morningglorys and moon flowers together i think those grow faster?) then some cuttings that have taken off which is very good with little water... it just seems like once a week i have to prune some dead flowers and about weed once every 2 weeks... and fertilize but watersing is once ever 2-3 days... vegetables everyday but yea pretty low maintence in my book... I planted some more seeds i got a wild flower mix seeds in a pot thats alreay sprouted i just put it in a pot with some potting soil put it in full sun in 2 days it was sprouted up! haha... but yea when they get bigger thats for the front door... then i planted some marigold seeds and some four-o-clocks and right now imma go soak some morning glory seeds just to see how fast theyll grow better than the sweet peas...
Do any of you know if sweet peas are a slow grower? I planted these all the way back in february and non of them are even climbing the trelis yet... they get water extra if its relaly hot out...
pleaseee... Betty Crocker aint got nothing on me =)
Wow, everyone's busy! I still need my mom to drive me so I can get some top soil and compost and start working the beds. Scott, sweet peas (lathyrus sp.) are 'sool' season plants, and like most peas, they stop growing if it gets too hot

I don't really tend to read lables the picture looked pretty! haha im a dumb @$$ haha! but im laughing about it i better soak some more other seeds haha
pleaseee... Betty Crocker aint got nothing on me =)
everyone has been busy. I need to get out there and pot up somemore plants. I just don't feel much like it today. What I did do was to give my banana pepper a bath. Those spider mites are back and attacking it like there is no tomorrow. Any suggestions for a permanent solution on those? I'm about to throw the plant and the pot it is in away. Along with the other plant that is in the kitchen.

I had the same thing happen with my broccoli. seed pack said put in after last frost and was ok for my zone. seems some brands of seed packs are all printed with the SAME info. my broccoli is 3 months old and about 4 inches high! ha ha

Today I potted up some champion rose for my sister in law to sell at her garden club plant sale. they seeded in lawn. I put a few back in the garden they came from LOL
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
By the time I'm finished harvesting not much has a chance to reseed around my place lol. Hopefully I'll become better at sharing with Mother Nature when I get moved.
Hi toposh, I'm sorry you had to pull up some of your plants. That always hurts.
WTG suzydaze, I've let the weeds have my beds here except where I still have plants in the ground. But as soon as I move I'll have lots of things to do.
we moved about 12 lupines today. They were in the aspagus bed. Moved them to the flower bed and watered them good. They don't like being moved. Expectin rain tonight and Friday night so that will be good for them. Also dug up a coral bell that was in the way of a bush. potted some for my sister in law. also raked some more of the lawn. I noticed a lot of baby lupins from seed coming L didn't move them. I would lose them as they are very delicate. does any one know if foxglove seeds need light. I have a lot plant.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
Well after the thunder storms and tornado's last night it was time to get out there while the clay was soft. I dug up a bunch more daffodils that were underneath the wormwood. Boy did that stuff take off. The I got the other two hostas, one bellflower, all of the eqyptian walking onions, and two horseradish plants. After that I was covered in mud so it was time to come in, clean up and take a nap. Which is why I am posting so much later than I normally do.
I only took a 'look see' today. I have maters almost as big as golf balls.YEA! something, I'm assuming coon's, are breaking off some of my small pepper plants. the okra I planted right before the very heavy rain looks big fat and happy. I thought they might be washed away they were so tiny. gotta sunflower about to bloom. it's in a very shady spot. it shouldn't bloom. it's either a bird gift or bird seed gone wild. it's too close to my other flower beds and garden to leave be if it blooms. we have too many deer. don't want them deer up here for all you can eat buffet! I have great respect for volunteers though, so as long as it don't bloom we'll get along just fine. and lots of mowing to be done.

well yesterday i divided up 2 huge dicentra and potted them for my sister in law garden sale. weeded by lily bed and watered the lupin i transplanted the day before. also got out my garden decorations.
Today I washed the bird feeders, and filled them, raked most of the back yard while DH went to the dump with brush. divided up primrose and weeded that garden. It was nice weather and so nice to be outside.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
Awwww the little fishes I love them. They are great.
It looks like everyone is getting geared up for spring.
I'm very excited too. But it seems to be rushing past rather fast. My Columbine already has a load of seed pods on it. Which is great because they will be a fantastic trade seed. I hope the pods aren't disturbed when I move the plant. I've got my fingers crossed on that one.
I'm going to try and dig up one of the shade evergreen sports to take with me. But there tap roots go on for just about forever so I may not have much success.
Keep posting I love hearing what everyone is doing.
How many strawberry plants do you have, Sheri? You need several for a harvest that will make a meal all at once. They could have a few on them at a time when they are really into their season. But one at a time is the beginning of the season for them.

50. I put 2 in pots, one in each, and they are giagantic. The ones in the ground aren't nearly as big. But, the strawberries are from the ground plants.
I'm sorry to hear about all your winter damage Tamara. I hope you can start planting and getting into the fun stuff real soon.
I've still digging things up to take to the new place. So far I've seventeen pots planted with things I'm taking and I'm over the half way point lol. I had no idea I had this much stuff around the place.
And that's not counting the houseplants. Where am I going to fit them all in the pathfinder hummmmmmmmmmmmm?
today I spread newspaper and hay around my cantaloupes, and picked a jalepeno from the garden. (used it in my chili for super!) tomorrow I must get on some mowing.

I needed to spread newspaper down under my grass too but I opted for the shorter version--& just did the grass.--now I need more grass.---good thing it is taking so much.--now our grass will grow lots.
all I did was pick some asperagus and change out some edging---going for the plain green in y garden & the stone look around my flowerbed.

today it's been raining but I went ahead and planted some more irises and some more naked ladies and some more lily of the valley and prunded a rose bush (I know it's the wrong time but it's just too bushy) yesterday I mowed and weed eatted (about 4 hours of that) I still have a hibiscus to get in the ground and elephont ears and need to plant some more seeds

Well yesterday I was out there trying to figure out how I'm going to get my anemonies and not all the weeds that are mixed in with them. I'll figure out a way. It rained again last nice so the ground is going to be nice and soft. Easy to get at the plants today.
cool idea Juniegirl thankyou. I'll get out there and do that as soon as it stops raining. The anemonies are hardy enough to withstand that without a problem. I think I'll use the same technique on the chinese lanterns. They too can handle that.
Thanks again.
Kenny good find on the pots. I always seem to be looking for pots lol.
that's what I do when the weeds get too mixed in with the plants - just dig the whole thing up and work the roots. Yesterday I papered and hayed the okra and put out some crushed garlic on a couple of ant spots in the garden. Today I plan on papering and haying a new flower bed I made about a month ago, and still haven't gotten around to 'dressing'. and spreading some compost in the garden.

I am so excited for this weekend! It's finally going to be warm and sunny. No, HOT and sunny. I have a lot to do outside and will finally be able to get to it because it won't be cold and rainy. I've got tons of weeding to do and general clean up, some pruning and bush trimming that I've been putting off. Happy gardening this weekend!!
Today I potted up some of the chinese lanterns, anenomies, A ground cover that I haven't identified yet, some daffodils and a couple of columbines. There are still a few to go. But I'm going to need help with at least one of them. It has a tap root that goes on forever.
what are you going to do with those pots?Use them for cooking or for planting flowers in?
ohh...they were plastic flower pots. I'm going to put my passionflower in one and I can't think of what to put in the other. I wanted to put a brug inside, but I don't think it's big enough.

I went out and exchanged the ipod shuffle that I got for store credit. My aunt didn't know I already have an mp3 from my other aunt, so when she saw me listening to it, she said if I didn't have a use for it [the ipod] I should go back and get store credit..."you might as well get something that you want or need" so that's exactly what I did... ended up buying a cheap 50' hose a small bag of lawn seed and a weeding 'stick'
it rained most of today, but I got a somethings done outside. I cut off the spent tulips blooms...such a shame, but I actually prefer no flower rather than half a flower...I just think it's too messy with half a flower
I disbudded the two peonies, took a while, and got my hand and arm all sticky, but I guess the bigger flowers will be worth it!
I weeded the back yard lawn of all the dandelions, and docks

'passion flower'....your from canada, it's probably a totally different plant, but down here we have a passion vine. I just love them. Oddest flower i've ever seen. you can't even say it's pretty, just odd and it looks like it's been turned inside out. (If anyone is interested I'll post a pic.) anyway, today I picked a few peppers, spread some compost,...gosh...I think that's all I did! ha ha

Today I actually got some of my weeding done. I didn't really feel like doing it but once I got into I was fine. I found what looked like little nest areas of earwigs. Not sure if I should do anything about getting rid of those. I pruned dead leaves off a mystery plant and pruned my snapdragons as well. I also noticed that my chocolate cosmo is coming back so that made me happy.
here's the passion vine...a pic from last year. the underside of this flower is pretty impressive too, but don't have a pic of it. they are just beginning to bloom, I can take more pics later if anyone wants to see. jiffy, your in zone 8, I would think they'd grow where you are??? we get bunches of seed pods! I'd glady share if your interested. (they are native/adaptive here.)
oh, and one of the peppers we picked from the garden today was a sweet gypsy...first year to grow them, but I'm in LOVE! I'll start a new thread..maybe tomorrow on how to harvest the seed. the tag doesn't say hybrid??? but we'll talk about all that somewhere else.

I've been wanting some passionflower for over a year. I'll have to see what kinds of seeds I have if you'd like to trade with me. I really love those flowers and I have a perfect spot for them but have been unable to find any. Beautiful pic by the way.
well yesterday I used my lawn sweeper & got myself some grass clippings for my herb garden & for my asperagus bed. --I trimmed the grass around the bricks of what my kids call my patio area--(just a bit of rock & pavers making a landscaped area between my dog pen & the deck area.)
I transplanted my amaryllis to a different pot--(someone---- ) put the A bulb in one of my 2 matching clay pots that I use on my front steps in the summer.
I used my leaf blower on my front porch & my gagage 'apron'
and today I helped the DH plant my new crimson King maple tree in the back yard-

I think you have a maypop? i'm not too sure. my vine I grew from seed from a passionfruit...i bought a passionfruit just to get the seeds...it was still cheaper than buying a 2.5" plug from the online nurseries. I think it's Passiflora incarnata or edulis, not too sure. They sure are beautiful plants!

Send me your addy, I still have some seeds from the fruit. They sprouted for me in less than a week, but it's been a while now (say a few months?) and they may take longer to sprout. Let me know if you want some. I would offer to send a cutting, but it's still a bit chilly here and I'm not sure how it'll do in a 2 eek trip, but if you want to try, I'll be glad to send you a cutting.

well yesterday I helped my DH plant a Crimson King maple tree---
very large---it came in a 7 or 10 gallon pot--but it is not so healthy, we had bad wind on the way bringing it home.
Today I went out & bought a Butterfly Bush--the plan was to get teh new variety of the multi colored type---or a bkack knight--but i saw one called "Peacock" and fell in love.
it is going to flower about the same color as the purplish colored lilacs--I am so excited.

On Friday I planted spinach in a 2 foot x 5 foot sector and swiss chard in the same amount of area. Carrots in a 5 x 5 square foot patch and green onion in a 2 x 4 area. Then the wax beans green and yellow -- mmmm --- beans....they are in 6 - 10 foot rows every 2 to 3 inches growing against stucco wire for support.
I have a 60 to 70 cyan peppers spread and 20 tomato plants.
I never got to harden off the transplants so I put a polyethylene sheet over the plants to prevent sun burn. The peppers and tomato went in on Saturday and Sunday and did not have any wilting at all, I don't even get that when I do the harden off... I will put in 6 squash and 3 egg plant with a 15 foot row of pole beans in better weather....
So every thing WAS going good till about an hour ago and the winds came in and are pounding my shade cover. the peppers are up against stucco wire on stakes getting slammed against the wire. It is going to rain for 4 or 5 days.
I wish I was not always doing battle with Mother Nature...

it takes a long time to make a yard from a field. alot of people think oh you have an open slate, well true, but it's sure alot of work getting things to grow and re planting, I still have trouble getting things to grow in my front yard and I have been here 8 years now

today I mowed the yard, dug up a car load of plants, irises, ditch lilies, hostas and 2 rose bushes, I came home and planted all that. Then watered everything and changed the dogs pools, I use part of their water to water plants with. I've had my third shower for the day I think I'm done.

I am carefully watching my Egyptian Walking onions. They have blooms on and the bulbets are there but they aren't loose. I don't know when to harvest but I plan to try. If you know of how to do this I would appreciate a heads up. Other than that, I'm just trying to decide which pot to put the last peony in. I'm so fussy about these little darlings. I hope they make it.
Then there is another attempt to get the shade evergreens out of the ground. I need a saw to cut that silly tap root. Talk about strong. But I really want to take a few of them with me. They would make great topiary subjects I think.
I've never been able to get an evergreen to make it after I've moved one. I hope you have better luck
I had alot of truble getting this one rose bush up this morning, someone had cut it off level with the ground and then it shot up shoots from that, so I had the cut those loose from the main plant and when I did it made 4 plants, I took one yesterday and got the other 2 today

I hope your roses recover well. Where are you getting them from?
I managed to dig up one small evergreen and send it to JV he said it survived so I have high hopes. Even though these are several years older than the one I sent him.
Today I planted 2 penta's in my flower bed in the back yard up against the house.---that was harder than it sounds---I first had to trtansplant some stray coneflower plants.--I had left tehm to grow because i thougth my sister and my DD 9val) wanted them.--but I got rid of all but 2 or 3--- Then I cleaned out my gardening bench & straightened up the area.
