Can anyone let me know how and when toplant seeds and how to grow Hollyhocks. I have a bunch of seeds but have never grown them. I am in AZ zone 9? and see a House down the road from me where they seem to come up voluntairely every year and grow without care since the homeowners are absent in the summer. Thanks for your help.

I just recently got some Hollyhock seeds.I'm just going to plant them and add water. Then when they have their first true leaves I'll add fertilizer.I'll keep on watering and see what happens.
Waiting for fall...

Hollyhocks are biennials (leaves first year, blooms the second, then it dies) but mine have been more like short lived perennials. They have a tap root (carrot like root) and if you do transplant, try not to touch the root too much. I find most things with tap roots resent transplanting.

Hi Pickles , I live in the Dallas area and the heat in the summer is real near yours. I know Hollyhocks are biennials But Mine Bloom every year, I have the dble petaled white,, I just placed them( seeds) in ground covered slightly and watered lightly ( more like a heavy mist so seeds wouldn't float away every day until it got it's first set of true leaves.) they did NOT bloom the first year as Kenny says,, BUt next year you'll have Blooms and it's worth the wait!
