At 3:00 this morning my water broke and contractions started quickly afterward. By the time we got to the hospital I was 3 cm dilated and was admitted to labor and delivery. I was given medicine to stop the contractions until all of the doctors could get to the OR and some labs that were drawn could get processed. Baby was born at 7:10am......its a BOY!!!!! His name is Luke Andrew and weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces and is 19 inches long. A very average sized baby just like the MFM specialist was expecting. Luke is doing GREAT!! He's feeding like a champ and sleeping when he's not eating.....at least soo far. :) The c-section went well....the tubes got tied and I am not feeling too much pain. They have a morphine drip going for me and I have a pain pump that I can push if I need it, but I don't use it all that much. The incision area doesn't hurt too much. So, no 'Cindy morphine' incidents going on here. We have pictures of him, but I haven't put them on the computer yet. I probably won't get to that until tomorrow since all of the grandparents will be arriving shortly and I think I will be going to sleep early today (since I've pretty much been up since 3!!!) We took a little nap, but having a full term baby after a preemie is really weird. I keep waking up and making sure he is breathing....with Maddie we had the monitors hooked to her all the time so we always knew what was going on with her. Luke is wireless!!
So, tomorrow I'll get some pictures of him posted for you all.....or if Stephen is feeling energetic he might put some on for you tonight. I LOVE the fact that the hospital has internet!!! Well, I need to scoot. Luke is getting hungry and Maddie is coming to meet him soon (we'll be sure to get pictures of that!).
Ohhhhhhhhh Boyyy!!! A Boy on Mother's day!!!!!!! Couldn't be any special a more Mother's day gift than that! Congratulations Jenn,Stephen, and Big Sister Maddie!!

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Ohhhh! Congratulations!! The perfect mothers day gift!

I'm not even sure if Maddie noticed him! LOL!!! When they came in she totally wanted to be held by me and I just can't with the incision being on my belly. So she was upset about that. But Daddy was good enough for her. Stephen was originally planning on staying at the hospital with me tonight, but decided to go home tonight so that he could take care of her tomorrow morning until she goes down for her first nap and then will come back to the hospital for the remainder of the day.
most likely Luke will get 'the snip' tomorrow and I'll do some more recovering and will probably go home on Tuesday. This evening I finished the mandatory bed rest, the nurse locked the IV for me and took off the lines, and then let me get up and take a shower. That felt soooooooooo good!!! The nurse was very surprised that I could get up and walk to the bathroom, take a shower, dry off, and get back to the bed without any pain meds. I was just a little sore but was feeling really good, but did decide to take a half dose of a pain medicine just to make sure that I didn't get behind on the pain and end up playing catch up with it.
Luke continues to feed well. I'm trying to learn how to burp him so he doesn't end up spitting up.....its soo different having a full term baby than having a preemie! I took me forever to dress Luke after he spit up and got his sleep sack wet!!! By the time Maddie was actually wearing clothing, she wasn't trying to keep her body in a ball like Luke is. poor kid. I feel almost like a first timer with him! :)
He didn't exactly come out swinging. He wouldn't start breathing at first...which isn't uncommon for c section babies. We knew he'd have the cord wrapped around his neck, but it turned out being wrapped around his neck twice, so that is why he couldn't get head down.
Ok....going to watch the rest of throw down and then go to bed. Night!
So very happy for you Jenn...little Luke looks like a really happy and healthy baby- you did a wonderful job... enjoy and take it easy while you can- 2 babies will be fun but at home will be very different - rest will be in short supply I am afraid. Nana
Tamara, I think he looks just like Maddie also. Minor difference....Maddie's head is more oblong and Luke's head is very round. Don't know if that will change or not, but his head is as round as a ball. Maddie's was never like that.
