I got a platform feeder. What do I put in it that won't attract creatures. I think I remember someone saying apple with peanut butter. Will that attract raccoons and the like? Do I dice or chunk or what with the apples?

Raccoons eat anything.

We haven't had much trouble with them but they are tearing up everything at my moms. Every bird feeder, lawn furniture, flowers, vege plants, everything. It's horrible.

guess I'll put out this apple I've been looking at and see what happens.

Cut the apple into slices and smear the slices with peanut butter. The Northern Mockingbirds love it. Also put birdseed, especially Black Oil Sunflower seed,in piles on the feeder. And mounds of peanuts in the shell for the Blue Jays and Titmouses.

Thorn, no takers for my platform feeder repas. Does that mean I don't have the birds in my area that enjoy that type of food? It's been almost 2 months.

Naw be patient. Check the thread above this one called, "Mistress of ALL She Surveys". That is a picture of a female House Sparrow on MY Platform Feeder. I have about 100 birds a day visit mine.

what are you putting on your feeder other than peanut butter with apples? Are you soaking your apples in rum?

I use Black Oil Sunflower seeds in a pile for Cardinals, Chickadees and House Sparrows, and peanuts in the shell for the Blue Jays, Titmouses, and Squirrels, on MY platform feeder. Chickadees and House Sparrows will use the tube feeders also. Chickadees PREFER the tube feeders.

The peanut butter on apple slices are the favorite of Mockingbirds. You can mix together all sorts of food in a BIG Smorgasbord and let the birds come and pick what THEY like. The other week we had 3/4 of an Angel Food Cake that was going bad so I put it on the platform. The House Sparrows went CRAZY over it.
