I went to the Eye Doctor near my house today for one of my infrequent eye checkups. Got my eyes dilated and examined, ordered my new glasses, found out I have early stages of cataracts in both eyes, and found out I'll have to get a medically necessary eyelid lift.

Anyways, on my walk home, my eyes screaming at the pain from the INTENSE light (it was VERY dark and cloudy), I TRIED to get some bird photographs. I heard an American Goldfinch singing closeby. I saw movement and took a picture. On getting home and developing the picture there was NO Goldfinch. Instead, there was an Eastern Phoebe, the FIRST one I've ever taken a picture of.

Then, I saw a really COOL bird sitting on a power line and took several pictures of it......AN ELECTRICAL LINE INSULATOR AND SPLICER...... a big ceramic spool with lines twisted around it. Finally I stopped to take pictures through blurry, screaming, eyes of some purple Russian Thistle......When I got home and processed the picture, there, eating seeds from the thistle, was a GORGEOUS male American Goldfinch. I'm NEVER going birding without glasses again.
