I have a big sack of mixed up glads to put in at my field. They will just be for cutting and the fair. I was going to put them in a big straight line like usual but it is so windy in my field I had a funny idea. What do you think about planting a half dozen or so in a small circle with one of those cheap tomato/peony cages for support? It would look stupid but at least they would stay up. Does that sound like something that would work or not?
A lot of mine are planted in a line and I use that cheap fence pieces that fit together, and I put them in front of them--that way they can't blow forward.
Works for me. With the taller fence pieces.
I think the cage would work great! I cut a lot of mine and bring them inside.
I used a grid year before last for my glads. It was the perfect solution. I used four of those plant stakes from the dollar store and then just made a grid out of cord. When the glads came up they covered the grid and the grid kept them all standing tall. They looked great. I plan to do the same thing next year with them.
Great ideas. They do have those green stakes (bamboo alternative I think) around here. I used them for green beans. I could get some for a grid. I better know before I plant them this weekend!
