How long do Iris's stay green after they bloom? They are purple ones, if that helps. They are the classic type I see around here in NW/NC Missouri. Any other pertinent info I should know about them?

Thanks for any help!

let the leaves stay if you want them to bloom again. the green leaves is what feeds the rizome for next year.

Thank you. :) So will they stay green until fall as long as I leave them be? I am trying to decide where they should be long term. If they die back earlier than fall, I will put them somewhere different. They will be fine where they are right now as long as they stay green through the summer...but if they don't, then my flower bed is going to look weird!

cut the flower stalks off after the flowers are done and have browned over. don't cut the leaves though...they will provide food to the rhizome for blooms next year. they should stay looking nice until about august...i just trim off the brown tips as they occur - just to keep things looking nice.

in fall, just leave them be - the leaves protect the tops of the rhizome over the winter. you can trim off the top portions if you want, though (i just leave them be).

next spring you can gently pull the dead leaves off - if they're still wanting to stay put, just cut them back to just right above the rhizome...new leaves will grow and you won't even see the ends of the cut pieces.
