Why are some 'Black-Eyed Susans' perennials and some are annuals? The ones with the green 'eye', some call it Irish Eyes I believe, are annuals. I had a ton of them last year that I started from seed that were absolutely beautiful, but I'm afraid I don't see any coming up yet this year! Will they look like cone flowers when they are coming up? Because I have a lot of those. I'm just kinda freeking out that all my hard work on those seeds last year - and there were a lot - are not going to come back for me and it's too late to start seeds for BES again for this year!

I bought two Irish Eyes a few years ago, and they barely made it through the summer, let alone return.

I do have black eyed suzies that have been reseeding all over the place through that past few years. I've give away many of those plants too.

Sorry I can't help you with your question, Patty.

One of my varieties come up the same as my coneflowers(Goldstrum)..the other has larger fuzzy leaves(don't know it's name...it was a slip from a neighbour.

bes can be annual, bi-ennial or perennial - depends on the variety.
