(Ok.... cricket- she chirps but don't spell) I know I probably spelt salmonela wrong.
anyway, I quit watching the news several month ago. I get too disgusted by the sensationalisim. (don't know if the mater's and salmonela is just a local thing or all over the U.S.???) I only know hubby says it's a good thing we are growing our own again this year, cause some maters have been pulled from the shelves.
So......I can see ecoli in maters,...maybe if you don't let your manure age before adding to the garden..... but how the heck does salmonela get in there? to me salmonela is raw chicken or pork, and handling turtles can also give it to you? So, what's up with these maters?

salmonella on tomatoes would be from chicken poo (which is excellent fertilizer, when aged) and the tomatoes not washed well. they get rinsed several times between the farm and the dinner table, but many people (i'm guilty blush ) don't use soap on their produce, even that from the store or farmer's market. so there, you go, instant salmonella poisoning from that wonderful tomato and mayo sandwich.

Good to know, Jiffy.
Rod was just telling me tonight (as we ate salads with cherry toms on them) that IL was one of the states that was reported to have Cherry tomatoes with the salmonella in/on them---

so if we are not already sick--I thank you for the information. I will be soap washing my tomatoes in teh Am for sure. Tonights toms jsut got a water wash. blush

Thanks again

So, if you wash with soap you can get the salmonella off the tomatoe? it's not up inside it?
