Hello, Has any one experience with the growing of capucyners? They are an old
bean that grow in pods, cultivated long ago in Europe by monks.
Found some dried in a Dutch Import store and fixed me a plate full, with chopped
onion and chopped pickle on the side. I will confess to adding some chopped crispy bacon and 1 tbl spoon bacon fat over it all. Yummie.... You have to
be Dutch to appreciate this.
Well I soaked a few overnight and planted them in a large barrel. Soil, half
topsoil and half mulch. Have 4 inch plants with tendrils and some sweet pea like
flowers.Guided the tendrils along some bamboo stakes and water them in the evening. It can be hot here in Colo. One day 90, next lower 60. Am I on the right
path with this? Do I cover the wire cage with a cloth for the hot sun? It is never so dry/hot in the Netherlands.
Any advise to this experiment will be happily accepted.
Thank you, Larkspur.
