I am so new to this. Am an Old Lady who is so hard at work gardening. This place was a empty spot with buckets of paint emptied on it. Cleaned it up and made 4 enormous holes for Aspen trees.Shaped beds around the trees and planted all kinds of perrennials. This is the 3rd year and the flowers look glorious. Now I have tomatoes, herbs, brussels sprouts, broadbeans, escarole, leeks and more in barrels and in the old containers from the Aspen trees.Put wire cages all around them to keep my cats out. Now I have a question about the potatoe seeds that I planted last week in 6 inches of soil in containers. Is it true that when I see growth to keep adding soil? Same with leeks for a longer white stem? There are so many questions that I will place later. Just am trying to introduce myself first. Greetings fron Larkspur,Colorado.
Thank you Tamara for your welcome. I need to get off this computer and do some gardening! I see you live in Canada. In the early sixties I lived in Labrador, Schefferville. I did read all the Agatha Christie books, all the John Steinbecks and a lot of Dutch books there. It was so cold and barren, not much else to do there. Have finished the lives of all the Russian Tsars, I did get them all second hand at Amazon. Also the Tudors and how they lived. Will find books about the early settlers. So fascinating how they coped with hardships. Have a nice day, Larkspur
Larkspur, my grand daughter, who is 10, thinks I'm 36. She's been thinking that all of her life even though she's a math wiz. Spoil your grand children and they'll believe anything.
KALAR, Me? not shy about my age. Only wish I had the darn wisdom that is supposed to come with it. Am 72 years young. As a matter of fact I worked a full day,(Fathersday in a restaurant) very busy. Also on Saturday was I there. It brings in the extra moela and it makes me feel good. Tomorrow I will weed, do my restaurant-laundry and go to the rec center to swim and walk a few miles. My motto : The World is my Sandbox I go out and play in it. Also I always say when you are an emigrant you have to work hard and smile a lot or they send you back on a boat, ha ha. Happy Gardening, Larkspur.

("Only wish I had the darn wisdom that is supposed to come with it.") Ain't that the truth!!!
(..."when you are an emigrant you have to work hard and smile a lot of they send you back on a boat.")
From the sound of it, Larkspur, you won't be 'sailing' anytime soon. And with all that working, walking, and swimming, you'll be kicking up dirt in the garden for a looonnnnngggg time.
