Well, Our DD Julie has graduated. It was a struggle at times but she did us proud. She took an award for Highest standing in Office Technology and was given a small scholarship by a local business.

Alot of the pics were too dark because the lighting was so low. Here's the best ones I could find.

This is Julie and her date Ryan...grad ceremony is over and they have no hats, they threw them in the air and had to wait a few minutes for someone to sort them out .


The theme was 'A Night in New York'.



Julie and her date Ryan. She had to be different...all the other girls had long evening gowns with tiara's and such. Our DD had a cocktail dress and purple streaks in her hair instead.

The above pic...the girl on the end in the robin egg blue dress was valedictorian and was given the highest award for the whole province of new Brunswick...a scholarship for $75,000.

Very nice pics Tam! Congratulations to DD for graduating and getting an award too!! Prom is always a fun time when you are in high school. I'm sure they enjoyed themselves!!

Wonderful pictures Tam! Your little girl is all grown up now huh? Looks like prom was a nice time, and she looked really pretty in her cocktail length dress. It's good to be different! Or at least, be yourself.

BTW, I never threw my cap up in the air---I couldn't...It was pinned down to my head with about 20 bobby pins.

That scholarship will come in handy, small or not....I got a small $500 one from the local paper mill when I graduated. So yay for her!

Here in NY, the stores were pushing short very fancy dresses - when I say short, I mean half way up the thigh! And the cost was the same as for the long ones - CRAZY! I don't think too many girls opted for them - there were only 4 girls out of the 26 that at the other prom picture taking that Amy went to with short dresses and they weren't even fancy - just everyday ordinary ones surprisingly.

The schools here in our county apparently don't do themes, while others around us do - wonder why we don't?

And wow - that is a fantastic scholarship that the valedictorian got - there's nothing here like that at all!

I just showed Julie's pictures to Amy and she really really liked her dress!!!
She also really liked the color of her graduation gown.

Hers is white and the boys wear blue. The white is so very sheer that they have to wear a very pale or white dress underneath - I've never seen such cheap graduation gowns before and we payed through the nose for it too!!! Sign of the times unfortunately!

Tamara Thanks for sharing,, I agree I like Julie's dress Far better than all the others,, and the coloring is Good on her as Lynne said,, dare to be different and true to your self is what it looks like Julie is saying and I say Good for her! Congrats to Julie for her scholarship every bit helps!!

I was reading alll the posts---Our H/Schools here always had "themed proms"---but it was more so they knew how to decorate the "ball room" area.


Some of our students got 'free rides' to various colleges--but none that came near to the $75,000.00 the young lady recieved at Julie's school. All I can say is WOW---

and yes every scholorship helps, regardless of the size.

Gnna answer a few questions~

Ryan was just he date for the prom...they are good friends.

The valedictorian had the highest marks out of all of the valedictorians in the province...so she got the provincial scholarship. We just found out she got another $5000 from our school and another $4000 from the university and two smaller ones from local businesses. She got almost $90,000 in all.

DD is 5 ft& 10 and DH is 6ft& 1, so that leaves my 5ft 4 looking quite short

Thorny, DD is blonde like me but dyes her hair black like her dad. My fathers side of the family has Mexican/Native in them. We laugh because since DD dyed her hair...they ask her for her native status number when shopping

Oh Lynne, green and gold are the school colours....it only cost $20 to rent their green gowns and they got the hat for free from the school.

Wow Tamara - I just looked it up and it cost $40 to BUY the cap and gown here!
The hat is sooooooo big on Amy that it falls right off - bobby pins will definitely be needed and she's already fighting us about that - silly girl... it's not like there is anything that can be done about it - they are 1 size fits all! There was an article a few months back about all the waste of buying gowns because really... what does one do with it when it's all over? We have both of Brian's in a closet here taking up space! They are hoping that companies will move to renting them, because they are so bad for the environment when people throw them out - they do not decompose very rapidly.

Speaking of size... I would NOT stand next to any of you... - I am only 5'1"!!!

Interesting about your daughter's hair color - this color suits her very well.
And what is the native status number??? Never heard of that?

We live near a Native Reserve and they each have a special status number so that they pay no tax on anything at the stores. DD looks native so they ask her for her number all the time.
