Amy just got a letter in the mail. The address is written in my handwriting but we did not recognize the return address at all. Upon opening it, she remembered that her THIRD GRADE TEACHER had them write letters to themselves, to be received when they graduated HIGH SCHOOL!!! She and I both have tears and I have the chills!!! There is a picture enclosed of her from then, and a class picture as well. A nice informative letter from the teacher too.

But the best part is the letter she wrote to HERSELF back in third grade, telling what she likes and loves the best then, what was popular, and what she wants to be when she grows up! She wanted to be a singer and actress on stage. Well I think playing the flute is not too far from that dream... what do you think? (this was a grade before she started playing the flute!)

Wasn't this one of the best graduation presents a kid could get???
What a SMART and CLEVER teacher! clap kissie

That is just the best, neatest idea ever! thumbup I would've loved something like that when I graduated. What a cool idea. Good thing you didn't move though or she never would've gotten it.

I wonder how many years this teacher did this for? She wrote that she stopped teaching when she had her family, so she had to have kept all this information for years in a file, right? It's just such a special thing to receive now, and what a surprise!!!

grin Lynn that is so nice. Sure that is something she will cherish the rest of her life. I wish they had something like that when I was in school. But on second thought probably better that we didn't. Can you Imagine how long it would have taken a third grader to chisel out a letter on a rock then the teacher mailing all those rocks that many years later? that would have broken Dino's back for sure yikes

What a splendid gift, Lynne!

Maxi's teacher built them a "time capsule" this year and I also had to write a letter to enclose in it, describing Maxi and his interests and known talents. I do not know when they plan to open it, though.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Merme - both my kids did time capsules at one time or another in school, but they were never opened that we know of. Maybe at one of the reunions further down the road? It's doubtful that either will go to any, and have probably forgotten about the time capsules.
