This is what I've been working on lately. I never got a baby gift out to my cousin's first grandbaby in Israel last summer , so I decided to make her a sundress - my first one ever. The pattern was sooooooo easy, and I like the way it came out - I did make it longer than the pattern called for because I hadn't seen that it really was for a top and not a dress. It looks better in person than it does in the picture.
I am starting a matching teddy bear for her that will have a similar dress on it. I need to do this quickly, as I just found out yesterday that her first birthday was July 7th.
Lynne--it is beautiful--and if hte photo does not do it justice then it will be more than the perfect gift. and a matching teddy bear--now THAT will be the icing on the cake. your cousin and her daughter will be so pleased.

Finished the matching bear, and decided to try to embroider lazy daisies on each dress front - I've never done that before, and it didn't come out too badly. Now to pack them up and find out the best way to send it to Israel.
These colors are much more true to the yarn than the first picture I posted of the sundress. I wish there were more little girls to knit for - everyone I know had a boy this past year!!!
Oh Lynne--I love the lazy daisys-----I think it makes the dress and it certainly makes the bear and the dress a matched set----VERY well done my dear!!
a perfect gift !!!

The problem with taking orders or even knitting things to sell at a craft fair, is that most people don't want to pay the price for the TIME it takes to make these items. The yarn is not that expensive, but it does take time - sometimes a lot more than people would pay for.
But I do appreciate your compliments very much!
And I do enjoy making things to give as gifts, so that's a win-win, right?
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww that is sooooooooooooo sweet Lynne! I love the soft brown color of the bear and the colors you used for the clothes are perfect! Dang you're good!!!!!!!!!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
lynne, you did a superb job, as usual. and you are right about people not wanting to pay for the time. but they are beautiful, i'm glad that you give from your heart and hands.
I haven't mailed it yet, but when I took it to the post office yesterday to find the best way to do so, the woman behind the window was gushing over them - made me feel so good! She, too, said that I should sell them, but I really wouldn't get the money to cover all the time put into making them unfortunately.
She advised me to use a mailing envelope - that will cost about $12 to send, otherwise a box would cost about $21!!! AND... there is only insurance on items sent by priority mail and that would start at $25 and up. She said there is not tracking or other coverage, because sending mail to Israel is a 50-50% chance it will get to the destination!!! The USPS will not cover mail sent there anymore because it's on the customs end that is iffy. Didn't make me feel very good about sending it, but I have no other choice unfortunately...
I love the dress and the bear Lynne! You really do wonderful work! You are right about selling stuff....a lot of time goes into making things and people don't realize that and don't want to pay what it would take to cover your time and materials. I always feel like selling things would take the fun out of it anyways! You would always feel like you had to be doing it constantly and have to hurry and get it done. I like to knit at my leisure!
Thanks Jessica! I'm still waiting to see a picture of your slippers!!!
It seems that everytime I am finished with a "big" project, I find a simple, and silly thing to make. Today it was an "eye ball" for Amy! She has green eyes, therefore the color. It was such a quick thing to crochet (I know this is a knitting thread, but it's a small project that I wanted to share), that I think I'll make a bunch to have on hand if I ever need a quick little kid gift too.
For some reason my camera is having trouble taking pictures of greenery, making it much greener than it should be. I tried editing the pictures and this is the best I could do for now. I'll try and get some better ones in the morning.
Here are the slippers I made for Tristen and I. James has a pair too but I didn't get them in the picture. We have been wearing these for a few months now so they are a little worn. I need to felt mine a bit more again.
And here is a "green" bag that I made. I put some yarn in it so that you could see what it looked like. I laid it flat at first but you couldn't see the pattern very well. The color didn't show up that great. It is dark pink. Almost a hot pink.

jessica, are you the one who also crochettes? I crochet and tried slippers several times last winter. (for some reason I only crochet during hybernation) I could NEVER get the size right! not even close!

I do crochet too Cricket but I haven't done much crocheting since I learned to knit. I like knitting better. The slippers that I make are felted Cricket so you keep felting them until they are the right size. I had to keep taking them out to try them on and check the size. Do you knit? I am willing to share the pattern!
I've never knitted, and have only been crochetting for a couple of years (winters) now. I sometimes get books from the library with patterns. most have knitting and crochette patterns combined into one book. it seems these books always have more of a variety of knitting patterns than croch. or maybe that is just me with the 'grass is always greener' syndrome. is there more flexiblility in knitting? I just don't get the knitting...using two needles...who holds the thread if both hands are full of yarn and needles! ha ha.

I thought the same thing before I learned to knit. I took a class at a local yarn shop. Now I love it! I think there is more flexibility in knitting but that might be just because I actually learned to knit and I taught myself how to crochet. I have knit things that I would not have a clue how to crochet. I feel like there are a lot more patterns too. I knit or crochet way more in the winter too. I have done far less this summer. We are just too busy with other things but I knit when I have a chance. I take it in the car a lot when James drives.
The slippers are the most comfortable slippers I have ever had! We wear them all the time!! Tristen sleeps with his on sometimes!
The bag is a yo k2tog for a round and then knit for a round. That is the main part of the bag. It is a simple pattern. I can scan it and e-mail it to you if you would like. I made mine out of linen yarn but they say cotton works too. My friend made one out of cotton and said that it was quite a bit bulkier than mine and she liked the way the linen looked better. I have not seen hers as she gave it as a gift so I can't say for sure.
I only crochet, that's enough for me..... I don't even do that as often anymore as I used to. There's usually things I'd rather do. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy doing it. But I can't type on the computer and crochet at the same time.
I'd love the pattern, Jessica - I'll PM you my email addy. Don't think I could use linen though - I have trouble using very thin yarns - cotton is about as thin as I can do.
I just got your PM Lynne. I PM'd you back! I think it will be fine with cotton too Lynne. That is what they recommend. I just loved the look and feel of linen so I did it that way. The linen is not too cheap though.
Thank you loz! I really enjoy knitting. I do far less in the summer though. There are many other things going on but I do it when I have down time right before bed.
Well the dress and bear made it to their destination in Israel just fine, thankfully!
Here is part of the thank you email...

[color:#000000]Wow! The dress and bear are really beautiful. You really did a great job. I went over to XXXX's in the evening and saw YYYY hugging the bear. ZZZZ told me that YYYY was enchanted by it. It is definitely her favorite toy. Wearing the dress will have to wait for cold weather. We thank you very much for the thought and effort.
Just thought I'd share that with you here, since a few of you were following along as I wrote about them as I was making them.
I guess I don't get that they are waiting for cold weather, to wear a cotton, tanktop sundress? It didn't seem all that heavy to me, but maybe things are that different over there?
Well... if that WERE the case, then I would have made it in darker colors for the fall or winter, you know? And included a little top to wear under it. That's what I don't get - it's summer/sun colors and sleeveless! Oh, well...
I just got an email from the baby's mom. She thanked me for all, and said she "thinks" the dress will fit, but she is waiting to try it on there because it is too hot and humid. I can understand that. I just thought they had AC there as well. Oh well... different strokes for different folks I guess...
I am VERY glad it arrived safely, and at least the bear is being well loved!
Some of you may remember that I knit a green and brown gnome for Amy to take to college - posted pictures of him here too. Wellllll... that was back when she was going to do her dorm room in white, black, and [color:#009900]GREEN. THEN... she changed her mind that she wanted her room to be white, black, and RED ! So, of course I started knitting a black and red gnome, since the green and brown just would not do now! Got half way done - head, body, and one boot and leg on the black and red too!
Well... when we were at Ikea buying RED sheets for her bed, we saw a very pretty purple room set-up with jewel tones as accents. The next day, after having bought the red sheets, she tells me that she wants the purple room instead! So, being the dutiful mother, I took her BACK down to Ikea and returned all the RED items and then we bought the jewel tones with purple for the bedsheets and quilt cover.
So of course, wanting my daughter to have something homemade from me, I set out to make a purple and jewel toned gnome just 2 days ago. Fortunately, I had all the yarn except for the beard. I just finished him about an hour ago.
Meet J E W [color:#339999]E L Tone gnome!!! He just HAD to smell the first brugmansia flower - it's so heavenly scented!!! And it only smells once the sun has gone down!
All sweet knit gnomes are serenaded by Flute Frog before embarking on their journey to parts unknown to them. Jewel Tone gnome wanted Gnomey to join in the festivities!
And here they are hanging out on the deck together, before parting tomorrow.
Thanks so much, everyone! And welcome skippy - your comment was greatly appreciated.
Amy and her gnome are settling into their new home now. I'm so glad she took him - she only took 1 other small stuffed "creature" - an "ugly doll". Don't ask!
Her roommate has 5 small well loved stuffed animals and a small "lovey" pillow, so I'm glad Amy has at least those two also.
Here is her room all set up on move-in day, with Jewel Tone gnome right up front!
Ohhhhhhhhh her college dorm room ! I like that,, the Jewel colors are fantastic,,! Warm and "Classy," * No pun intended,* What a busy day that must have been,, setting it up in a day ~ Jewel gnome looks great there!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
It looks great Lynne! You two did a fantastic job picking all of that out. I love the colors!! I'm glad to hear that she took jewel tone gnome with her. He is so cute!!
The colors all stemmed from the one striped pillow cover that we saw at Ikea. She wanted a "ton of pillows" in all the colors of the stripes and we were lucky to find most of them pretty quickly and not too expensively. I thought it was a bit much for a dorm room, but it does feel cozy and warm as some of you have said. Especially since the walls are all painted cinderblocks!
I wasn't too sure about adding the curtains on the wall, but Don obliged her, and it does complete the look. By the way... she calls it "Bohemian style"!
Tamara - I can't wait to hear about your daughter's room and comforter set! I've been meaning to ask you about all that.
The surprise will be a funny one I think. I wanted to buy her a nice comforter set at Wal-mart for $30 and she said no. She wanted an $80 one from Zellers and I said no. I have a funny feeling she bought the one at Wal-mart
~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.
Once again, not knitting, but crocheting. I didn't want to start/waste another thread so I'll just add them here.
I wanted to make something cute for Amy's dorm room for the upcoming season. I found a few patterns, but some were a bit confusing to me as I'm just a basic crocheter, so I simply made a ball (like the eyeballs I've made) and took someone else's idea of wrapping the yarn to make the sections. Also took someone's idea to use twigs as the stems - thought that looked better than the crocheted stems I saw.
What do you think of these pumpkins? I think they look just like the Jack B'little ones that we used to get at the farm stands!
The first one I made...
Now to make 3 more for her roommate - I figure since she is so far from home, she might like some also.
I finished the second set of pumpkins last week, and was packing them up this morning when I realized that i had not taken a picture so I took them out of the cellophane wrapping and took one. I do like the way the burgundy one came out as well, so I am going to suggest that Amy pick which of the 2 sets she would prefer, before giving one to her roommate. I cannot decide which I prefer. The burgundy one has a different texture too.
This time I used some wood chips from the town's free mulch pile for the stems - also gives a bit of a different feel to the pumpkins.
Here is a closer look at the burgundy one so you can see the texture - this is Lion Brand Homespun yarn. Same as I am using in the lap blankets.
the burgundy one looks purple to me--but whatever the color I love it--I bedt amy will prefer it too--it will blend in nicely with the 'theme' of her room.
and once again yhou have done a wonderful job of knitting.

Well I finished the second diagonal blanket that is like I made for Amy - this time I used 5 skeins of yarn instead of the 3 I used for hers - it's a lap blanket so not a bed size, but perfect for wrapping up in while at the computer, or while sitting and watching tv, etc. Didn't take any pictures since it's pretty much the same as Amy's up above.
But... Don informed me that there is new baby in his office - a couple I've met a few times and really like, so I needed to whip up something quickly to add to the other "baby boy" items I had made ahead for the next gift. I needed to make a bunch of adjustments to the pattern I found online, and still need to tweak it a bit, but I think it came out pretty cute for my first try - what do you think?
Banana flavored ice cream cone!
Amy's build-a-bear bunny thinks it's cool! (couldn't help that pun!!! )
Thanks Tina! No, I am not able to post there, but am going to email the woman to see if she made the pattern a bit different since her samples look so much fuller than what was coming out on mine.
I'm now finishing up another very cute pattern and will post it when it's done. This one had no problems and is sooooooooo adorable!
I wish I had found this pattern before I sent off Amy's package yesterday - it would have gone so well with the pumpkins that I sent! I think this is one of the cutest things that I've found to make so far. Very easy and fast too - it's only 3 inches tall. I'm going to make a bunch of them - some choc. ones too!
Heyyyyyyy those candy corn would look cool in one of the bowls you made Lynne,! do you still have those bowls?? I can't remember what color they were,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Diane - I do still have those bowls and they would look nice in them, but I am making them to send to Amy for now. Might send a few to her friend Nikki too.
Here are the first chcolate Indian corn with the original one from yesterday. I made the one on the left first and it came out smaller than the yellow one, so I crocheted the second chocolate one loser and it is a bit bigger than the yellow - go figure! But then again, real candy corn pieces are not all exactly the same size anyway, right?
Oh Lynne-- I love the chocolate candy corns !!!!---- ----and the small one does not look bad, in fact I like it----anyway it is like you say, candy corns are all different sizes anyhow.

Thanks for the compliments again all! You all are the best cheerleaders!
Diane - thanks so much for posting the lapblanket I sent you - I'm so very glad it matches your decor. And guess what - I finally saw Amy on this past Thursday evening and gave the one I made for her, to her - same yarn. She left me a cell phone message yesterday saying that she loves it, and the colors are PERFECT for her dorm room colors! Yea - 2 for 2 - I am so glad I picked the right yarn for both places and people.
Last Thursday morning I started crocheting a purple bowl for my sister-in-law. She LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVES purple. But the stitches were small and it was taking much too long to be finished in time to go see her that evening for our holiday. So I decided to make it for Amy instead, and trimmed the top with some leftover yarn from the blankets so it would match. I added a Kokopelli charm, since he was a flute player and so is Amy. She is home today visiting a good friend whose grandmother passed away yesterday, and I finished it while she was over there so she hasn't seen it yet. She should be home any minute now...
It's not as bright purple as the picture makes it out to be.
It's 2 1/2 inches high, and 6 inches wide.
First bowl I've ever crocheted - think I'll have to make more of different yarns!
