That was interesting lol. Ok here I do again. I have berry canes here and there throughout my wooded area. I'd like to gather up all the canes and put them in one place. But if I remember correctly their thorns go all the way to the roots. Can anyone suggest a planting method that won't put me in hurt city? And when would be the best time to do this. They are of course easiest to find when they have colored berries on them.

DIY described a way to handle cactus that I think I can use when I go to transplant the berries this fall.

I definitely have to transplant them to a place where I can watch over them. The lack of rain and having to compete with the trees for the moisture means the berries never had a chance. So I'm going to do better next year. By then I hope to have bulked up my arms to the point that the weed wacker doesn't do me in for an entire day when I use it.

a good pair of 'rose' gloves should be all that you need to handle the canes. good rose gloves are thick leather. you can also wrap newspaper and/or tinfoil around the area you want to hold.

What kind of berry canes Tammy? They can become invasive if they are raspberries. I'm dealing with some everywhere now...i am at the point where I mow them over.

Fall would be a good time to move them. You can wrap newspaper around them to help keep the thorns out of your hands while transplanting..

These are blackberries but that are just as invasive. I do love blackberry jam though so I'm willing to put up with the invasive little darlings. I just want to put them in one place so that keeping them in check will be a little easier. Also watering and fertilizing them.

Thank you for the information. I never knew there were rose gloves. I'll look into getting some of those. They sound very handy.
