I am going away for 3 weeks. I have quite a few houseplants and as I live in a flat, they will have to remain inside. What is the best way to keep them watered? I read somewhere that placing them in a bathtub filled with an inch of water can be done- is this a good idea. I also have a couple of bonsais. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance.
i've done the bathtub thing, i've put bowls of water under them, and i've done the "wick method" where you put gallon jugs of water on the same level as the plant, and a cotton twine or rope running from the jug up into the pots. you have to make sure it is in the pot well. the plant will "pull" the water from the wick as needed.
some may be just fine with a good watering before you leave and others may need some kind of treatment so that they get some moisture while you are away.
